HBO HD is on 101 though it may move back to 119 eventually. HDNet is at 119 as always. Showtime HD is on 110. Discovery HD is not yet available on DirecTv. Dish Network offers it though.
And a tip when looking to buy an HD receiver, check around for an open box unit. Alot of times stores have those because people bought them, but couldnt get an OTA signal reliably or whatever the reasons. You can get a couple hundred bucks off that way...sometimes more.
I dont think you'll *ever* see locals in HD off satellite. Maybe one each of all the Networks in HD from a National signal if you live in an area that qualifies. Like Dish Network is offering with CBS these days. Otherwise though theres just not enough bandwidth to allow for that, even after a...
It's all relative I guess. J6P wasnt getting a basic DirecTv system for 50 bucks the first couple years they came out. They listed at 750.00 at first for an entry level system. Same with DVD players. They may be 79.95 at Walmart now, but they werent a couple, 3 years ago.
I actually have 3 HD...
Slight clarification Scott... First off, theres no such thing as 4:3 HD. HD is inherently a 16:9 format. It is possible though that your local affiliate upconverts it's non-HD digital programming to 720p or 1080i and that would likely make it look better than the standard analog feed, but rest...
Theres only 1 NASA channel, the one I mentioned. At this time it shows no HD material. It's not an HD channel. You may have seen some shuttle footage in HD at a retailer, but it would have been part of the Dish Network demo loop more than likely because they had some segments of that.
When a...
You might get a couple NYC digital channels but unfortunately a number of them went down on 9/11 because the transmitters were on the WTC. CBS is still broadcasting though because they are on Empire.
You also might look into getting the Philly stations I guess, but in any case you may end up...
Well I've had this unit for a couple months, and it gets pretty warm, yeah. But not stupidly hot. I have 2 other HD STB's that dont get quite as warm, but they have fans built in and the Mitsu doesnt.
You didnt answer my questions. And I've talked to DirecTv many times because I have both DirecTv HD and Dish Network HD.
Dish Network offers HBO-HD and Showtime-HD, CBS-HD and HD-PPV. DirecTv offers HBO-HD and HDNet/HD-PPV and nothing more. Period.
Marshawn, two questions. Do you get HDNet, the new all HD Network? You should, it's only available on DirecTv. it's on channel 199 and it's included on all DirecTv subscriptions (yet you dont mention it for some "strange" reason). And, what model number of HD receiver do you have?
I lied...
Well alot of em already have switched over to sending H/DTV and are still sending out NTSC also. So this *is* the transition period. Sets wont be obsolete though if you really dont want to upgrade. You'll just eventually need a digital tuner to decode the signals, but it will have RCA and...
Just a quick correction on what Bruce just said regarding the Networks. Indeed ABC really stepped up this season, but it's CBS that is the decided leader in Network HD at this point. Not only have all their scripted shows been in HD for 2 years now, but they've also had many many sporting events...
I hear ya Rich. I dunno, I just so fell in love with the "purty pictures" that I just did whatever it took to get as much of the HD programming as possible. Even to the tune of 3 seperate HD receivers!
But yeah, it's definitely not ready for the faint of heart yet. Nor for the faint of...
