Hey Jason I have a PW2100 and which I love. In trying to set it up I've toed it in, shoved it in the corner, brought it out of the corner a little, put it between the mains, fired the driver at the wall, put it diagonly in the corner, etc. Just try all that stuff out and see what sounds best to...
Magnepan MMGs. Search for Alan Z's thread detailing his switch from higher end paradigms to the maggies for more info. However you probably don't want to ditch all your NHT gear so I agree with Brian, buy a nicer sub.
My two favorite blues albums are BBKing "Live at Cook County Jail" and BBKing "Live at the Regal". Both live concerts are amazing and you can find these two disks for under $10 no problem.
Go through and doublecheck everything to make sure you are crossing over at your 100 setting, ie are your mains set to small? Still like John suggested it shouldn't distort, is should only sound boomy. I wonder if you blew the driver or something? Are you sure its the sub and not the mains...
Here is the answer you are not after: the song you know that has "bass, nice imaging, clean vocal, high freqs, etc..." There is a billion choices but the key is you have to know the song inside and out. Remeber you are not going to go enjoy the speakers in the store, you are going to evaluate...
You are only talking about audio right??? For HT every speaker gets a workout and removing any of them degrades your performance. The only exception is not running a center which some around here prefer but that is only with certain setups. The magnepan crowd has reported that they can get away...
Congrats on your purchase Vinh! They are a really nice speaker and you are not going to be dissapointed with purchasing them blind especially if you like Revel stuff in the first place. At the demo I attended I spend quite a bit of time listening to the M12s rigged up for 2 channel (no sub)...
Just picked up the CD over lunch, Hunger for the Great Light is 4:20. The disk sounds pretty laid back compared to previous releases. I'm enjoying it, nice and peaceful feel.
Here is a basic diagram for setting up your room. Its a good starting point anyway.
With your limited budget you don't have that many options. The SVS and HSU subs are popular because they offer great value for the money. Lots of guys around here love SVS and have tested the heck out of them...
Hey Xander: If I were you I'd put that cash towards two front mains and a sub. You are spreading yourself too thin trying to buy a full 7.1 system for 6-900 bucks. Buy your system in peices and build it over time or you are just going to want to upgrade all your stuff anyway. Mains: $400...
Greg you need an intervention! Here is what I propose: Do you have any high end audio shops you could go hang out in and listen to some of the good stuff? I can never hear the difference between speakers at the big box stores, too much noise and bad setups to make an educated decision. I keep...
This is interesting, I was wondering if I'd like a more neutral speaker over time, as it does sound more natural. It just sounds "dull" at first if you are used to a brighter sound.
Here in Edmonton I shop at Audio Ark, they have demo nights and the last one was for the Concerta line from Revel. These were the most laid back speakers I have heard to date, really different from my Paradigms. I like them a lot but I think I prefer a brighter speaker actually. I also felt my...
Hey Greg go out and buy some klipsch speakers...just kidding! I own M7s and they are a brighter speaker, some like that and others don't. Before you toss your M5s take a look at how they are positioned. Moving your speakers around in your room will really change how they sound. If they are...
