Bluesound ships Pulse M streaming speaker

Bluesound is expanding its line of wireless multi-room streaming speakers with the $449 PULSE M, available now. Using Bluesound’s new ‘Omni-Hybrid’ design, the PULSE M has an angled, up-firing 5.25-inch woofer and two 0.75-inch tweeters offset at 45 degrees from each other. A custom-designed acoustic reflector above the woofer diffuses unwanted artifacts while directing the driver’s higher frequencies out and away from the speaker, creating “a 360° soundstage”, says Bluesound.

A DSP smart amplifier produces 80 watts of power with real-time monitoring and control of frequency bandwidth, dynamic range and distortion, making listening from any angle more engaging. The Omni-Hybrid architecture sits inside a manageable elliptical cabinet 8 (H) x 5 7/8 (D), and 6 3/4 (W) inches for space saving. There are also a wall mount accessory and adjustable floor stands if needed. The speaker is available in satin black or white finishes with an aesthetically pleasing transparent fabric grille.

The PULSE M has access to multiple natively-integrated music services and internet radio stations via the BluOS Controller app. Quick-access playback, volume controls and programmable presets are available on the top of the player with a proximity-sensing touch panel display. There is also voice control via Apple Siri, Amazon Alexa, or Google Assistant. Music can be played over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, AirPlay 2, two-way aptX HD Bluetooth, USB-A, 3.5mm dual analog/digital input, or the 3.5mm headphone jack. There is also smart home integration.

The speaker can be paired to create two-channel listening with an on- or off-axix “ultra-wide” soundstage. The PULSE M can also be used as rear surrounds in a Bluesound home theater group, or combined with other players in a Bluesound ecosystem for hi-res, multi-room audio.
