The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in…as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don’t get paid for this, and I don’t have the time to list every DVD. So, please don’t complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

The Specials

–Best Buy, this week, has a Sunday flyer.  That’s the good news.  The bad news is that it’s not very informative.

–For example, half the space assigned to media is designated for this week’s release of The Death of Superman.  It shows a BB EXCLUSIVE which includes what looks to be a book titled The Death of Superman: The Wake.  It also shows standard Blu-ray and 4k/UHD releases.  But all it says is that prices will be “starting at $17.99.”  Since I assume that will be the price of the standard Blu, I have included it as such in the grid.  Best Buy also says you can “Watch more from the DC Universe at $9.99 each.”  Titles shown are a Blu-ray of Teen Titans: Judas Contract, a Double Feature of The New Adventures of Superman/The New Adventures of Batman, and a Batman DF including Batman vs. Robin/Son of Batman.

–The following recent releases are on sale this week at Best Buy as part of a “Two for $22” sale of Blu-ray and 4k/UHD movies:

$11.99:  Blockers, Truth or Dare, Pacific Rim: Uprising (all Blu-ray)

$14.99:  The Fate of the Furious (4k/UHD)

–Best Buy is also advertising Pre-Orders of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Solo: A Star Wars Story.  BB will have EXCLUSIVE STEELBOOK releases for 4k/UHD versions of both titles.

–Best Buy’s Weekly Ad is available at THIS LINK.

–Target this week has an EXCLUSIVE STEELBOOK release of the Blu-ray of The Death of Superman.  Cost:  $24.99.

–Target is also advertising a sale on the following recent Blu-rays:

$15.00:  15:17 to Paris, Game Night

$24.99:  Ready Player One

–Target’s Weekly Ad is available at THIS LINK.

Another quiet week for me. I have The Day After coming and I know sometime down the road I will pull the trigger on Frank & Gina's Never So Few (a film I've never seen before). But that's it.

And I haven't said so in a while, but thanks for all the "likes" of the OP. They are always noticed and appreciated.

Safe shopping, RoundUppers!

Thank you, Mike!

Nothing in way of new releases for me this week, but I think I'm going to pick up the Before Trilogy at Barnes & Noble this weekend before the Criterion sale ends on Monday.

Edit: Or not. Both of my local B&N stores, plus the website, are out of stock on it.

Mike,

FYI, I am not seeing the prices for any titles on this week's round-up using Firefox on my phone. I am away from my desktop, so cannot check that.

I may pick up Never So Few during a future sale. Nothing for now though. Thanks for the prices.

Thanks for the roundup Mike
Chrome on a desktop shows the prices but they are mostly for Amazon with hot links ... so those are blue ...

Nothing for me this week, which is good. I spent quite a bit last month, and anticipate spending more in the future, so any respite is good!

Yep, a quiet week for me as well. Nothing that I just can't live without immediately though there are a couple that I'll probably look for down the road.

Thanks, Mike!

I'll let the owners know, Scott. Thanks!

Both BB and Target have not been advertising new releases in their Sunday flyers nearly as much as they used to in the past. By culling the Amazon's prices, however, I find that I end up including most relevant new releases each week and then add whatever BB & Target deign to add in their flyers.

It was not a critique ... just an observation

It seems like a lot of the time we use this forum to discuss negative customer service experiences, which makes sense. But today I was lucky enough to have probably the best customer service experience I've ever had when buying a movie, so I feel like I've got to share this because it was so great and I'm frankly stunned that it happened like this.

I posted earlier today that I was thinking about getting the Before Trilogy -- well, before the end of the Barnes & Noble Criterion sale on Monday. The website said my store had it in stock, and a member of the staff pulled it for me -- but then the cashier noticed as she was about to ring it up that it was actually the DVD version, since it didn't have Criterion's usual Blu-ray sticker on it. Because it's a digipack and not their usual keepcase, it was an easy mistake to make, and I didn't actually see the case myself since it was pulled off the shelf and (almost) rung up for me.

She called the other store at the other side of town and they had the same issue: they had the DVD, but not the Blu-ray. I said I would be happy to take a raincheck if they could order it, but she checked and said they weren't able to do that because it was completely out of stock from the supplier. However, she took my phone number and said she would call me if she found a way to get it. I thought she was just being nice and never expected to hear from her again.

A few hours later, she called me and said that she found a copy at a store which is four hours away from here. She arranged for that store to pull it for me. All I had to do was call them and give them my credit card and address and they would process it as a phone order and send it to me in the mail. It will go out on Monday via UPS and I should have it by the end of the week. They didn't even charge shipping on it.

I should note that the cashier at my store is getting absolutely nothing out of this other than the satisfaction of helping me. The store here is not making the sale, officially; the one that is sending it to me is. And she won't get any kind of credit with her superiors for working hard to make a sale they didn't get. But she went above and beyond for me really for no other reason than to be nice, and I'm still kind of amazed by it since I had resigned myself to not getting it during this sale.

I almost want to call the local store back tomorrow and thank her but I have no idea if she is working tomorrow and how I would get connected to her versus another employee, since anyone can pick up the phone there.

But I'm really thrilled about this and wanted to share.

Go one better, write her a note and send a copy to her boss assuming she's not the Manager. At worst she gets an extra pat on the back and a rare handwritten ThankYou note. At best, it's goes on her Permanent Record for this job or possibly a resume if she is working toward a different job down the line (or grad school application) in the "this is the employee/student/future doctor" you want to be associated with your brand

Above and beyond always is a good habit in any walk of life

I will probably get On Chesil Beach from iTunes.

Unless you have already seen and know you like the movie, I would highly recommend against that ass a blind purchase. I saw it in theaters for the cast and absolutely hated it. The worst movie of the year so far by a lot in my opinion. Worth a rental for the cast if you're curious, but it's really not very good despite their best efforts.

I had Death of Superman ordered, but it hasn't moved (4k) off the $28 price point...so I said no thanks. It needs to come down in price a little bit.

I also cancelled Predator...though it's entirely possible I pull the trigger on Friday, assuming the $47 price point is still valid.

Thank you Mike!

I'm very interested in Predator 4k, but I can't find it anywhere for less than $29.99, but Target has the 3 movie set for 41.99.
At $14 a film that seems to be the way to go. I don't care for Predator 2, but I did enjoy Predators quite a bit. So even if I never watch 2, ill still have effectively paid about $20 for 1 and 3. Not a bad deal.

But this leads me to a question about pricing strategy. I understand the per film price being cheaper than a single film. But most retailers have the 3 film set for $47.99, roughly $16 per film. Practically half the price of the single film. This seems like an awfully wide gap. Like they want to punish people for only wanting one film instead of encouraging people to buy the three film set.
