The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in…as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don’t get paid for this, and I don’t have the time to list every DVD. So, please don’t complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

The Specials

–No “Specials” to report this week on new releases among our featured retailers.  But there are any number of “Special” titles among this week’s new releases!

THIS constitutes one of the biggest release weeks in a long while.

So many high profile titles. Whenever I can start off a RoundUp with an image of the poster of Lawrence of Arabia, ya know it's going to be a significant week. And so many other big titles, too! Even Pretty in Pink finally makes it onto Blu!

Have fun finding something for yourself! And, of course, do it safely! :D

Thank you, Mike! Nothing for me this week in terms of new release discs. A 4k version of Lawrence of Arabia sure would be of interest to me if I were equipped to watch it, but since I'm not, it doesn't matter. I'm glad it's finally coming for those of you who can enjoy it, though.

But I am getting a couple other things. I ordered Roma from Amazon a few weeks ago when they dropped the price to $19.59 -- for a Criterion! -- but it quickly went out of stock. They've gotten more in and that will be coming tomorrow, so I'll still have something new to watch. Plus, Twilight Time still has one more order to send me which should get here at some point or other. I'm not sure if it will be this week or not, but maybe. I'll enjoy that whenever it does show up and am in no rush.

Also, Joan Bauer has a new book out this week. She has been one of my favorite authors since all the way back when I was in middle school, and I always eagerly anticipate new work from her. So I'll have Raising Lumie to read next week.

I am trying to get through the massive Columbia Classics set and get my review posted, but nearly every movie in the set is well over 2 hours each (Gandhi is over 3, LOA is 4).

Would it be easier for you to break up the amount of work if you posted reviews of each of the titles individually? I know they're not being released that way right now, but it's got to be a mammoth task, so I doubt anyone would mind if you did it that way. Don't overwork yourself.

Advance Target Ad for this Sunday 6/14 are advertising another B2G1 sale on Movie/Book/Games for next week

So if you need a couple of the Universal Boxsets (1/2/4/5 are in stock and a bit under $60ea), Shout Boxsets, etc it's not a bad time

The Pressed MOD series seems a bit light this time. A lot of recent titles are OOS and preorders aren't even listed. Only 2 of the Warner Archive title I want are currently available to order. Several of the Sony MOD are $22-23 so $16 ea is a pretty decent deal on those that never go on sale

My Girl, Radio Flyer and Pretty is Pink might be a decent trio

Taza Son of Cochise is 19.99 so a nice price point to find a couple other titles

I'm not sure that the middle of a pandemic is the right time to be releasing a $100+ boxed set of anything. I'm sure Sony has done a good job on it, but that's a lot of money at any time, especially at a time when lots of people are out of work. I wonder what Sony's sales expectations for the set are.

And a lot of people are not out of work or financially hurting. Why would anyone want to deny those who want the product?

And I would bet Sony's got high expectations for the sale of the set.

As has been noted numerous times across the forum, these are business decisions made with a considerable amount of research behind them.

Wait...am I understanding that we can buy braveheart or gladiator in 4K for $28 each or $28 together? What am I missing?

Well, in the time since Mike posted the Roundup, the price for Gladiator as a standalone release dropped to $24.99. So that's slightly cheaper than the 2-pack if you just wanted the one title. But yes, I do agree that it's very strange. If Paramount wants to price it like that, though, they're more than welcome to do so. ;)

Thanks, Bob(!) ! The link has been added to the grid.

I have also added another RAH link (just below the 4k/UHD grid) for his thoughts on Jerry Maguire--while we wait for Todd to complete his review on the entire Columbia Classics set.

I don't want to deny anyone who wants the product. However, I do wish that Sony would release these titles individually for those of us who do not want to spend over $100 for the one or two titles we are interested in. Personally, the only film in this set that is a "must have" for me is Lawrence of Arabia. I really like Dr. Strangelove, but am not convinced that I need to upgrade that title to 4K from my existing Criterion BD. Gandhi is a title I may upgrade if it was on sale cheap, but it's not a film I watch very often so I can live with the BD. I am happy with the BD of Mr. Smith, and see no need to upgrade that to 4K. I have A League of Their Own on DVD, and that's good enough for me for that film. I still have Jerry Maguire on DVD for my wife, but I have no desire to ever watch that film again.

I will be satisfied with the 4K version of LoA on iTunes until Sony decides to release it separately on disc.
