The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in…as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don’t get paid for this, and I don’t have the time to list every DVD. So, please don’t complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

  1. Hello RoundUppers!

I've pre-ordered only one thing this week: The Man Who Invented Christmas (which comes highly recommended to me).

No BB flyer…again. Sigh. Some big new releases, too. Oh well.

    Safe shopping!

  2. Mike you mentioned the Target exclusive for Last Jedi – do you know if that’s only on the Blu or if it’s also for the 4K? I ask because it’s rarely for the 4K…but hope springs eternal!

  3. Just the Target exclusive Blu of Thor: Ragnarok for me. I'll pick up Lady Bird down the road, once it drops below $10. A strong contender for my favorite film of 2018, but it's the type of title that goes on sale pretty quickly.

  4. Thank you for your work on this as always, Mike!

I have The Breadwinner and Lady Bird on order from Amazon for this week. Those who have read the movies forum know I'm especially fond of The Breadwinner and would recommend it to anyone interested. It's also already streaming on Netflix for those of you who have that.

I'll probably also get Thor Ragnarok at some point, but not right now.

  5. I'll be picking up Cat O' Nine Tails and Lady Bird. I'll eventually pick up A Fistful Of Dynamite and The Strangers.

Thanks for the prices, Mike! 🙂

The Target website only has the exclusive for the Blu-ray/DVD release.

  6. Thanks, Mike. Nothing for me this week. I am happy with my current BD copies of The Cat O’ Nine Tails and A Fistful of Dynamite, and the trailers for the Thor film did nothing for me… it may be a rental sometime down the road.

I've pre-ordered only one thing this week: The Man Who Invented Christmas (which comes highly recommended to me).

Remember back when Christmas-themed movies like this would have 10 or 11-month windows between theatrical and video so as to time the video release to the following holiday season after theatrical?

Man, how times have changed in the industry.

If you meant Thor, it’s not included with the 4K edition only the Blu-ray.

  9. TonyD

Thor 4K at DMC is still $35 you get the other movies in the order for the discount rate?

I have it in my cart now and it’s showing up for the lower price. Last Jedi is full price.

    Sorry, Carlo:

  11. Thanks as always, Mike!

I cancelled my pre-order of The Dark Crystal from Amazon yesterday. I'm finding that I'm no longer getting a better deal from the pre-orders, so why should The River get my ducats? Both Walmart and Best Buy have it for the same price.
I am also debating on whether to get the blu-ray digibook or the BB SteelBook Exclusive. I'm going to go out on Tuesday to decide. I hope I don't feel the need to purchase both.

If you are a My Best Buy rewards member, you get a $5 rewards certificate if you purchase the 4K Steelbook of Dark Crystal. It's a Sony release and a catalog title, so you shouldn't have to fight for a copy.

I'm hoping to have my 4K reviews of Thor up tomorrow and Dark Crystal by Tuesday.

  13. Clay_E

I'll be getting the BB steelbook release of Thor, but otherwise that's it for me.

I hope you pre-ordered it, otherwise you may want to camp out at the local BB store. Each store typically only gets 4-5 steelbooks (if that) per format on Disney/Marvel/Lucasfilm titles. I should know, since I used to work for BB and we used to get yelled at a lot by customers when they would sell out in the first few minutes (and, no, they did not get sold to employees, at least at the store I worked at, as our managers were very strict about putting these out just as the door opened).

  14. Sam Posten

No Amazon, no discounts, no collector’s eds

    Best Buy:
    $27.99 for standard 4K (save $2)
$34.99 for steelbook 4K (exclusive, no savings, no additional extras)
    $24.99 for standard Blu-ray (save $2)
    $27.99 for steelbook Blu-ray (save$2)

  15. Thanks Mike. Nothing for me this week; I guess I’m getting pickier as my shelves are now full and overflowing…. These days I’m buying very few new films, even those I see at the theater. Most are not good enough for re-watching, in my opinion.

My big complaint is that many of the TV series I want to buy — like “Bosh” — are not available from Amazon as Blue-rays or DVDS…. Is this the coming thing? Stream, or else–fuggetaboutit!

  16. Todd Erwin

    Best Buy:
    $27.99 for standard 4K (save $2)
$34.99 for steelbook 4K (exclusive, no savings, no additional extras)
    $24.99 for standard Blu-ray (save $2)
    $27.99 for steelbook Blu-ray (save$2)

Those were not in the WRU when I last looked. Still, $2 off MSRP? Nah.

  17. I'm holding off on Thor UHD also.

I pre ordered Dark Crystal UHD for $19.99, and I'm sure Thor will outsell it by a mile. So I'm not sure why the steep price.

I'd gladly pay the $34.99 for the UHD steelbook if it had the IMAX shifting ratio 3d disc included, like Kong and GotG2. But as is, I can wait.

  18. Something strange going on with the Target-exclusive Blu for Thor 3. It's not available on Target.com, and it's showing as out of stock at all Target stores within 100 miles of me. Been checking periodically since it moved out of pre-order status this morning.

Never ceases to amaze me when retailers have rollout problems with their own exclusives.

  19. I'm not shocked, honestly. The Target app doesn't show any within 50 miles of me…then again, it said the same about Coco 4k last year and the store I randomly stopped at had at least 7 on the shelf…

  20. Adam Lenhardt

Never ceases to amaze me when retailers have rollout problems with their own exclusives.

This is why I've lately sworn off exclusive editions. I used to go all out for them, but in the last year or so especially, it's just not been worth the hassle to me. If they're going to make it difficult to get their exclusives, then I don't need them.

My all-time favorite example was when Django Unchained came out and Target had the steelbook. My Target in Indiana didn't have any in stock at all. I ended up getting one because a friend in Nebraska bought one for me at his Target and mailed it to me. But that he would have to do that was completely ridiculous

    Jason_V

then again, it said the same about Coco 4k last year and the store I randomly stopped at had at least 7 on the shelf…

Your Target had Coco last year? Man, that is some early exclusive. 😉

  21. Ended up going to Target in person because I had store credit I wanted to use up, and I figured worst came to worst I'd just buy the regular Blu-Ray.

When I got to the back of the store I was shocked at how much their movie/tv/music section had dwindled. They had one new release stand for CDs, and that's it. The DVDs and Blu-Rays are down to about 2 and a half short aisles. There were three copies of the UHD release and one copy of the DVD, but no Blu-Rays (Target exclusive or regular). I asked one the people at the electronics desk if there were any more copies and he was clueless, but flagged down a co-worker who directed me to a large cardboard display by the checkout lines. I nabbed the last copy of the Target exclusive Blu-Ray. The cashier was very jealous.:)

Amazon has the 4K for $24.99. Too late for me I preordered at BB and got it Monday.

Not too late — unlike Amazon, BBY has a price guarantee for the same item while you are in the return period (15/30/45 days depending on you RZ status).

If you bought online just contact they CS number (assume you did if you received Monday). If you bought in store you can do it at the store the same way you do a PM or you can try the PM phone number though that's 50/50 whether they'll allow it if the transaction is in your BBY history yet.

Obviously won't help if you bought the Exclusive item

  23. I'm going to wait until tomorrow to see if Target puts a Cartwheel deal up for Thor. If there do, I'll likely stop there to get the 4k. Otherwise, I'll drop into BB, price match to Amazon and be done. If they won't PM, then I'll order from Amazon in the parking lot and be done.

  24. I was able to order ThoR in 4K from Target.com $27.99 – $1.40 Red Card discount it could be here by Monday.

The site said there were copies at my regular Target store but there weren't any 4K copies the day before (at least 20 of the regular bluray) and I could not do site-to-store …

Amazon's $24.99 deal was for Prime members only and I believe it went back to $27.99 …

Sturm and Drang … (aka 1st world problems)

Thanks for that tip. Too late now I think, but I will keep it in mind for the future. Since this was a birthday gift for my son I did not want to take a chance of not getting on time so I preordered. I rarely do that though. Good to know on the price guarantee.

We;re talking about Thor right? I think BBY purchase date should start from release date (or maybe shipment date/date your CC was charge) not the actual order date.
