The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in…as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don’t get paid for this, and I don’t have the time to list every DVD. So, please don’t complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

  1. I'll get Crimson Peak this week and at some point I'll get Spectre ($20 is a good price but Bond always goes on sale) and Sheba, Baby. Thanks for the prices, Mike! 🙂

  2. I am slated to review SPECTRE as well as three of the Twilight Time releases (argh! I'm not finished reviewing the January releases yet!), but none are at my fingertips yet.

Thanks for the price, Mike! The RoundUp looks nice!

  3. Thanks Mike!On Safari (which I've had to switch to since the app went away post conversion) the prices are cut off in either portrait or landscape mode. Any suggestions from fellow HTF members?  I'm reading via iPhone.

  4. Nothing this week…Spectre can wait a long time, as far as I'm concerned. Since everyone else is sharing their opinions on the new formatting, I'm fine with the shortcut to the whole article. No harm, no foul on this end.

  5. Sam-

    I think you mean Dave?

I made some changes to the tables.  In my testing on both desktop and ipad they are scaling much better.  Can anyone having problems earlier verify that it looks better for them? Appreciate your patience, we are still playing with content like the WRU.

I don't want to rehash AB in this thread, but like it or not ads play the bills.  For those who are are running them, we are going to let you know that you are no helping the site.  If you are running premium, we ignore your AB as you are supporting the site that way.  (Plug for premium: Its $1 a month gives you no ads, some enhanced site features and ignores your AB software).  Back to the WRU.

  6. Hey Rounduppers!

I gotta say I like the looks of the new formatting for the RoundUp.  Let me know what you guys think.

One thing I'll be bringing up to the owners is that it's impossible to tell the difference between text with links and text without links.

For the record, Matt Hough has done a review of MI-5 and RAH has a thread on A Mighty Wind.  Click those titles in the Blu-ray grid to read those.

And, of course, all the Amazon prices are clickable links which hep support the HTF.  Thanks in advance for using those links.

And, as always, thanks in advance for your likes of the OP.  They are always noted and appreciated.

  7. Thanks for your work, Mike.  I'll probably get Spectre  at some point because I have all of the other Daniel Craig Bond films, but I didn't love it enough to rush out and make it an ASAP purchase, so I'm fine waiting for a price drop on that (even though the steelbook looks cool.)  That being said, nothing for  me this week.

  8. Thanks, Mike! Just FYI: The first photo (Weekly RoundUp logo?) and the DVD/Blu-Ray logo images are broken links for me. When I click "View Image", I get the following error: "You do not have permission to view media within this album."

Same for me. This one will have to wait until it drops below $10.

    Adam:

Thanks!  Can you see them now?  I never would have known had you not said something.  I think I changed the permissions of the album where they are stored so you should be able to see them now.

Adam has already noted that, privately, with me Steve.  It is on our "to do" list to figure out how to fix that.

Well, it's actually on Adam's "to do" list because I'd have no idea.  😀   It's his jobs to fix things, it's my job to just stand around and look pretty.

    All is copacetic now!

  12. I'm sure it's not a major concern but for those of us running ABP on Chrome those 'article' pages (and the HTF front page) are a formatting disaster.

I sure prefer having the WRU in the thread tho not as a separate article, just like my opinion man!

Also, is it possible to have UHDs in their own chart for those of us early adopters?

#1  What's ABP?  Not that it matters to me…but you might want to let Adam know about that.  I let him know (with visual proof) that the homepage wasn't displaying right for me and he and Dave had it fixed up pronto.

#2  I think the article thing is here to stay.

#3  I was thinking of that as I realized that title was coming up this week…although I've since been told–via PM–that it has been pushed back to March 1st.  I remember going through this when HD-DVD and Blu-rays first came out, too.  What seems so normal now made me really configure things differently back then!

Thanks for the RoundUp, Mike. I still strongly dislike having to click on a link to read it especially since it takes me away from the thread.

It's the theme you are using most likely. If you swap to the regular one, it'll look fine.

  16. Thanks for the RoundUp, Mike. I still strongly dislike having to click on a link to read it especially since it takes me away from the thread.

Do what I always do, David.  Right-click on the link and open in a new tab.

Unless, of course, you are reading it on your phone/tablet…

  17. The Amazon link to Life of Pi 4K Blu-ray still says March 1 release date.

Yup.  I noted that up above in post #12.

I've just figured out how to edit a RoundUp in this new format.  So, I've removed the Twilight Time pre-orders from the specials and Blu grid…as well as Life of Pi (4k UHD).

  18. Do what I always do, David.  Right-click on the link and open in a new tab.

Unless, of course, you are reading it on your phone/tablet…

Which is where I do 95% of my HTF reading.

  19. Hey Rounduppers!

One thing I'll be bringing up to the owners is that it's impossible to tell the difference between text with links and text without links.

On that note, the Amazon link for Convergence in blu-ray is just text without taking you to Amazon.

Thanks for the Roundup, Mike! Like the new format – although not seeing the post in line with the thread will take some getting used to…

  20. The Amazon link to Life of Pi 4K Blu-ray still says March 1 release date.

In fairness to Mike F, earlier this week it was changed to 02-09-16, then it got pushed back to the original release date, 03-01-16 with the rest of 4K releases.

  21. My copy of SPECTRE is coming to me from Target…along with the $5 Target giftcard for pre-ordering several weeks ago.

Those links in the OP are taking me to an archived 2001 thread.

(I'm on Tapatalk on the iPad.)

    The Amazon price links, Charles?

  22. #1  What's ABP?  Not that it matters to me…but you might want to let Adam know about that.

#2  I think the article thing is here to stay.

Ad Block Pro.  Demonize me if you want but I will stop going to sites if they blank out due to end users employing ABP.  I hope HTF doesn't make us make that choice, but I'm not uninstalling it no matter how many banners there are at the top of pages.  Adam already stated it's tied to my specific skin tho not ABP.  Hopefully it adapts over time.

Bummer on Articles.  Makes these threads about 50% less effective IMO.  Why make readers swap back and forth?

Perhaps this is better handled in PMs…

  23. Bummer on Articles.  Makes these threads about 50% less effective IMO.  Why make readers swap back and forth?

I've held my opinion on this for a few days to see if I would find the logic or the good in it, but I have to totally agree.  We now click or tap two times to get to the whole OP, and then I find that the thread is mirrored over on the article side, too.  This is one change I don't understand, and Sam's "50% less effective" says it well.  Like an ill-conceived presentation of a TV show or movie, it "takes me out of the experience".

Sorry on the name confusion, post Super Bowl haze 🙂

Re: ABP looks like my premium has run out, thought it was on auto renew, will get that sorted.

Articles still look like this to me at least on mobile:

  25. Seriously, is there a reason for the article/ thread mirror thing? Because it's really annoying. (Not mentioned yet: when I'm looking at the article, it tells me I need to log in to add a comment, even though I *am* logged in.)

If there's a good reason to do it this way, then fine, it's not the end of the world, but if there isn't, I don't see the advantage.

There are actually a lot of good reasons, mostly boring behind the scenes ones.  Ultimately the blog/articles will become the site front page and it will be a little more seamless then.  You should be logged in as your login should sync.  We have been doing a lot of work on the blog side so that might have caused a momentary hiccup.

    Much better!

Although it still irritated me to click page one of this thread only to have to click on the article and have another page load…oh well. Like I said, I'm not going to leave the HTF or the fine folks here over it. I'm sure I'll eventually get used to it. Then it'll only be a minor irritation.

  28. Sam-

I understand sites depend on ads, but I was forced to start using a blocker when many sites got obnoxious with the pop-ups, pop-unders, and flyovers.  I've been pretty much malware free since I made that move.  I did go ahead and disable the blocker for HTH to help support it since I trust the site.

Delicate balance of SEO vs. User Convenience…

This might backfire if it is being done for SEO, especially if the blog/articles are going to be on the front page.  I've read that Google will penalize a page that has too many affiliate links on it and that a good rule of thumb is one affiliate link for every 500 words.  This weeks WRU comes out to about 870 words with 54 affiliate links. That's probably why another well known site has a separate review page for each movie, has one or two affiliate links near the top of every review page, then has most of their homepage links directing to the review pages instead of directly to Amazon.
