The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in…as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don’t get paid for this, and I don’t have the time to list every DVD. So, please don’t complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

The Specials

–Best Buy, this week, has no new release titles advertised in its flyer.

–Best Buy wants you to know that you can pre-order an EXCLUSIVE STEELBOOK version of Aquaman (in either 4k/UHD or Blu-ray) from them.

–In typical vague fashion of late, Best Buy shows a bunch of recent releases and advertises them as “Starting at $19.99.”  Titles shown are:

4k/UHD:  The Batman Trilogy, Suicide Squad, Man of Steel, Constantine: City of Demons, Superman: The Movie, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis

Blu-ray:  Batman: The Complete Animated Series, The Death of Superman

–And, without even listing a “Starting at” price, Best Buy is advertising a series of Disney Blu-rays for sale:  Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, Incredibles 2, Ant-man and the Wasp, Christopher Robin, Coco, Wrinkle in Time, PIXAR Shorts: Vol. 3, Solo: A SW Story, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Black Panther.

–Best Buy’s Weekly Ad is available at THIS LINK.

–Target (in its 12-23-18 Sunday flyer) has the following recent Blu-ray releases advertised on sale:

$19.99:  The Predator

$22.99:  Smallfoot, Equalizer 2, Venom, The House With a Clock In its Walls

  1. Merry Christmas, RoundUppers! [IMG] And Happy New Year! [IMG]

This is, historically, that time of year when the worst movies of the current year are released. Enjoy! 😀

It is also that time of year when I give myself a week off since pickins' are slim and things are quiet.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and all the best in 2019!

  2. Can't imagine why the pickin's are so slim… 😀

Merry Christmas, Mike! And thank you for another great year of release dates and prices.

I enjoyed Bad Times at the Royale a lot in theaters, but I can't see me rewatching it very much, so it doesn't quite merit a purchase.

  3. White Boy Rick, and Night School aren’t bad and I’ve heard good things about Bad Times at the El Royale. Even though I’m not buying any of them it could have been worse.

  4. Happy New Years, RoundUppers! [IMG]

And here–now–is the Target Sunday flyer info for next week (new releases as of 1-1-19).

The grids have been updated with these prices…along with the addition of a title that wasn't included when first posted.

    A-X-L:
    DVD $17.99
    Blu-ray $19.99

Bad Times at the El Royale:
    DVD $14.99
    Blu-ray $19.99
    4k/UHD $14.99

    Night School:
    DVD $17.99
    Blu-ray $19.99
    4k/UHD Not Listed

Catalog Titles (available for this price on Sunday, December 30th):

    $19.99: The Predator

    $22.99: Venom

  5. Thought I was getting a great deal on Solo yesterday; they had a bunch of copies of the UHD in a slot marked $14.99. Didn't check my receipt until I got home and had opened the shrink wrap. Turns out I paid $29.96. They'd put a bunch of the UHD copies in the DVD Only slot. The lesson here is to always read the labels carefully.

Ugh. If I were you I would go back and challenge that. It seems like since it was the result of their error, the least they could do is give you the difference.

I didn't love Solo but I would probably buy it for $14.99 too, for the sake of completion…but $29.96 would bother me.

It was on me. By the time I got to the self-checkout, I was having stomach issues, and I really don't like to use Walmart bathrooms if I can help it, so I didn't double-check the price like I normally would have. At that point, I was just focused on getting home ASAP.

I look at it as a $15 lesson to take my time and pay attention to the details.

Whenever I see a deal too good to be true at Target I take the item to the scanner (or if it's too big have a "team member" do a price check only) to check it out … View attachment 53764

  10. And now here's the media info from this week's Best Buy ad (for what it's worth).

No new releases to be added to the grid.

The only thing of note is an EXCLUSIVE Steelbook of Hellboy II for $17.99.

Other than that, just another listing of catalog titles with no specified price ("Starting at $17.99"). Titles shown include:

Blu-ray: Incredibles 2, Venom, Solo: A SW Story, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Equalizer 2, Smallfoot, The Predator, The Nun

4k/UHD: The Lion King, Incredibles 2, Coco, Thor: Ragnarok, The Last Jedi, Black Panther, Solo: A SW Story, The Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp

  11. Mike Frezon

    (for what it's worth).

    You mean, nothing? :rolling-smiley:

Thanks for making the effort of posting this, but as we've discussed before, the completely vague and utter uselessness of this ad is actually a significant turnoff for me in terms of visiting their store.

  12. Happy New Year everyone!

Target currently has a Cartwheel coupon live for 15% off all movies now through January 6. The coupon says "Blu-ray, DVD and 4K."

I could have sworn I saw that mentioned here already and was coming to thank whoever posted it, but now I don't see it. So either I'm overlooking it or I'm nuts. I'm guessing I picked it up elsewhere maybe.

The coupon printout shows Incredibles 2, but it just says "Movies," so that means all movies that they have, new release or otherwise.

I cancelled my Amazon pre-order of Bad Times at the El Royale and will pick it up at Target tomorrow to use the discount.

RedCard users can of course get their additional 5%, meaning you can get 20% off any of Target's listed prices in the grid if you combine those discounts.

I was gonna come in and mention this, Jake. Thank you for beating me to it. 🙂

I will be going in on Friday to possibly get Solo, Lion King and Incredibles 2. Solo and Incredibles 2 show on sale, though I'm second guessing if that price is the 15% price off or not. I'll figure it out on Friday night.

It’s only 264 movies across the 3 formats that have 15% off. Not a great selection for me.

  15. Robert Crawford

It’s only 264 movies across the 3 formats that have 15% off. Not a great selection for me as I have all of those titles already on 4K or BD disc. Also, some of those discounted titles are DVD.

I’m not positive that’s right, Robert. From the main page of the app, the 15% offer takes you to a page with an eligible items section. Clicking on See All produces a list of 13k titles. The same list appears if you go through the tech menu.

If you click through via a title you search for, it is on select titles.

It’s probably best to scan the barcode in the store to figure out if the title is included or not.

It is right as there are only 19 4K/UHD titles among the 264 titles that are discounted by 15%.

I did a search for 4K movies in the app. Many, many more than 19. One up with the Save 15% on select movies tag.

I just scanned the first 24 4K titles I have. 17 came up with the 15% offer-Air Force One through Dark Knight Rises. It is not possible there are only 19 if the scanner can be believed.

You’re right, their site is crazy when I click on that 15% off icon it brings up just 264 titles across the three disc formats. However, if I search by each format like 4K or Blu-ray, it brings up many more titles.

  19. I went to Target this morning prior to reading Robert's post and I bought Bad Times at the El Royale and Juliet, Naked, assuming that since they were movies, the coupon would apply to them.

I just checked the receipt and they did in fact give me the discount on both.

Whether they're actually included in the sale, or whether the cashier did that manually because I said I had a coupon that I believed should work for all movies, I don't know. But it worked out for me.

Also, even though I went mid-morning, and Bad Times at the El Royale has only been out since today, they were already out of 4K copies. I saw a spot on the shelf designated for it with the $24.99 price sticker next to the DVD and Blu-ray editions, but it was empty. So either they didn't get a lot in to begin with, or a lot of other people have been in there this morning to pick up the 4K. I only needed the Blu-ray, so I got it without issue, but I noticed the absence of the 4K from the shelf.

The sign in the store said "new releases not included" whatever that means. I assume within the last few weeks

Right, "Bad Times at the El Royale" isn't among the titles that are getting that 15% discount off. 4K titles like "The Lion King" and "Equalizer 2" will have that 15% discount.

  22. I almost headed to Target yesterday afternoon to get the titles I wanted. Almost. I'll go on Friday, which was my plan all along. If the two local Target's are out of what I want, then I'm doing a little farther south on Saturday and have three more stores available there.
