The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in…as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don’t get paid for this, and I don’t have the time to list every DVD. So, please don’t complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

  1. Just Star Trek: Beyond for me this week.

    Although the presence of Carole Landis in I Wake Up Screaming might push me off the fence on that title!

    It might be kinda nice to have an HD release of the theatrical version of Stripes, too.  Never a big fan of the extended cut.

    Safe shopping, RoundUppers!  And thanks, as always, for stopping by, checking things out and for any "likes" of the OP.  Love youse guys!

  2. Thanks for your work, Mike.  Imelda Staunton is sensational in the production of Gypsy that Shout Factory is releasing this week, but I'm going to need the $22.99 price point to drop a little bit before I make a purchase.  The Sweeney Todd concert is also fantastic — I have it on DVD — but since it was filmed for PBS in 2001 in 1.33:1 and with stereo sound, I'm not convinced in this case that upgrading it to HD will make the presentation that much better than my upscaled DVD already is.

    If anyone is interested in seeing Gypsy without paying for the disc just yet, check your TV listings; PBS is going to be airing the show later this month as part of the Great Performances series.

    As far as Star Trek is concerned, it was fine in the theater, but didn't leave enough of an impression on me to want to own it, especially given all the retailer-exclusive nonsense.  Clearly Paramount did not learn anything from the Into Darkness mess, since they've gone and made the same mess this time around.

    So, nothing for me at this time.

  3. Any clue as to what's included in the 90 minutes of Target's ST Beyond exclusive?

    Sorry, Peter.  I got nothing.

    All the Sunday flyer ad gives up is the image of the cover with the sticker.  The sticker reads:  "Only @ Target.  Collectible Packaging + Bonus Blu-ray disc.  4 Double-Sided Collectible Cards and over 90 minutes of Bonus Content."

  4. Also they didn't learn from the last Star Trek release as we see this one have exclusives that are only on the Target 2D edition and won't be on the 3D version which is already at a higher price.

  5. Any clue as to what's included in the 90 minutes of Target's ST Beyond exclusive?

    According to Target's website:

    "Bonus blu-ray disc with over 90 minutes of extras including 45 minutes of exclusive content: Get a behind the scenes look at the film’s incredible visual effects, costumes and props. Plus, see how Director Justin Lin and the cast and crew of Star Trek Beyond created the climactic Battle of Yorktown, and more!"

  6. Thanks for the RoundUp, Mike!

    I have put in to review several other of this week's releases, but they have not arrived (request only made a day or two ago). Hopefully, I'll get some of them since the two Grables this week are a bit off the beaten path from her usual fluff.

    Will definitely be buying the new Star Trek, but whether it'll be 3D or 4K, I haven't decided. Won't pay that high price for that collector's edition with everything.

  7. And I just realized this will be the sixth release week since The Good Wife: Season 7 has been released on DVD…and I still haven't bought it!

    The Amazon price has now climbed to $40.99.  But at least it is listed as "in stock" but "may take an extra 1 or 2 days to process."  Still an odd treatment of this release.

  8. I am going to pick up some version of Star Trek. I'd like to get the 3D and it would be nice to also have a UHD version for future-proofing, so that makes the Amazon exclusive tempting.

    I'll eventually get the Batman disc too.

  9. It's the least I could do after all of your hard work week after week!

    Well, one of the things I feel strongly about is…the contributions of others to any week's RoundUp is not only welcome…but ENCOURAGED!

    I never pretend that these things are complete records of what's available each week.  People are ENCOURAGED to submit titles, deals, anything(!) if they have something I don't.

  10. I am going to pick up some version of Star Trek. I'd like to get the 3D and it would be nice to also have a UHD version for future-proofing, so that makes the Amazon exclusive tempting.

    I'll eventually get the Batman disc too.

    I was committed to getting the 3D version, so getting the UHD version and the amazon exclusive for $20 more is kind of nice — it will go nicely next to my model of the enterprise that I got as a target exclusive in 2009.

  11. As always, thank you very much for the RoundUp, Mike! Great job, as always. :thumbsup:

    This is a big spending week for me, with four blu-ray pre-orders plus all those Christmas album re-issues from Real Gone Music.

    • Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders
    • Battle of the Sexes
    • Beautiful Blonde from Bashful Bend
    • I Wake Up Screaming

    I'm holding off of Doc Savage and Film Detective's Film Noir Collection until I read some reviews.

  12. I think I read on one of the Star Trek threads that if you get the 3D blu of Star Trek Beyond, you'll get the code for the digital copy from iTunes. That copy should have the Target exclusive extras? I'll have to double check to see if I have that right. Never the less, I'll skip the Target exclusive abs get the regular 3D copy of STB.

  13. Nelson,

    AFAIK, redeeming the digital coupon with iTunes will get you the video commentary track; it will *not* get you all of the Target exclusives

    In all likelihood there will be another release in about 6 to 8 months which will combine all of the retailer "exclusives" into one package.

    I'm just getting the standard Blu-ray package from Amazon to hold me over for now.

  14. Thanks for clearing that up about the iTunes download extra, Joseph!  I remembered that was discussed on another thread as a way to get an extra. I just thought it might include what Target is offering.

    Maybe a box set that includes all three movies with the extras will be out. I never got the set with the first two films that included all the extras for the Into Darkness retailer exclusives frakus.

  15. Nelson,

    I just received my Star Trek Beyond Blu-ray and redeemed the digital code which came with it on iTunes.

    I got the following iTunes Extras (Viewed on my PC):

    * Enhanced Commentary Track

    * Beyond the Darkness (10 min 7 sec)

    * Enterprise Takedown (4 min 30 sec)

    * Divided and Conquered (8 min 16 sec)

    * A Warped Sense of Revenge (5 min 14 sec)

    * Trekking in the Desert (3 min 5 sec)

    * Exploring Strange New Worlds (6 min 1 sec)

    * New Life, New Civilizations (8 min 3 sec)

    * To Live Long and Prosper (7 min 50 sec)

    * For Leonard and Anton (5 min 12 sec)

    * Gag Reel (5 min 12 sec)

    * Two deleted scenes

    * Two photo galleries

    So, perhaps, it does include the Target extras.

  16. Thanks Joseph. Do those extra features match up with the extras on the blu ray? My copy doesn't arrive till Thursday. (I guess Amazon didn't ship my pre-order to arrive the day of release.)

    According to the overview of the Target exclusives that Osato pointed out in the other Star Trek threadat the trekcore site, the titles of the extras don't match. So perhaps the iTunes extras are not Targets. 🙁

  17. Nelson,

    It looks like the Amazon "regular" Blu-ray release (mine is Blu-ray+DVD+Digital HD; I did not opt for the 3D) includes everything available on iTunes — with the exception of the commentary track :unsure: and the two photo galleries:

    * Behind-the-Scenes Photo Gallery

    * Concept Art Photo Gallery

    So, it appears that the Target Bonus Disc does include content not available on either the Blu-ray or via redeeming the included Digital HD coupon on iTunes.
