The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in…as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don’t get paid for this, and I don’t have the time to list every DVD. So, please don’t complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

The Specials

–Best Buy, this week, has a deal to save $5 if you buy BOTH their EXCLUSIVE steelbook release of the Blu-ray of  X-Men: Apocalypse AND any other X-Men steelbook Blu-ray release.

–Best Buy is also advertising that it has a GRAPHIC NOVEL with their Blu-ray copies of Preacher: Season 1.  There is no indication in their flyer that this is an EXCLUSIVE.

–There IS a Sunday flyer for Best Buy this week…but it contains precious little information about this week’s releases…and NO deals pertaining to any catalog titles.

–Best Buy Odds and Ends:  None to report.

–Target this week has an EXCLUSIVE RELEASE of X-Men: Apocalypse.  It includes a 1983 Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters yearbook.  Also, buy X-Men: Apocalypse on Blu-ray @ Target and get a FREE 5.5 to 10.5 ounce select Smartfood popcorn!   Huh.  Popcorn and movies actually go together.  A much better promotion than that classic Incredibles/Market Pantry water tie-in of eleven years ago…  I just can’t let it go!

–Target is also advertising EXCLUSIVE STEELBOOK PACKAGING of its Blu-ray copies of Preacher: Season 1.

–Target’s also got EXCLUSIVE COLLECTIBLE CARDS with its copies of American Horror Story: Hotel.

–Target has the following Halloween DVD titles on sale this week:

$3.99:  Hocus Pocus, Coraline, The Goonies, Ghostbusters

$7.99: Toy Story of Terror, Book of Life

$9.99:  Hotel Transylvania 2, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Goosebumps, LEGO Scooby: Haunted Hollywood.

–Target Odds and Ends: Target is also advertising some other $9.99 DVDs:  Divergent: Allegiant, Jurassic World, The Hateful Eight, Straight Outta Compton, Pitch Perfect 2.

  1. I don’t see Bowfinger Best Buy Exclusive Blu-Ray listed on their website. Would like to get it with the other exclusives coming out this week for Best Buy.

  2. Thanks for the prices as always, Mike!

I managed to get up the review for Laid in America right before you posted the RoundUp. It can be found here.

I'm slated to get the new X-Men and American Horror Story: Hotel for review, but no advanced word when they might arrive.

Definitely plan to add three or four of this week's entries to my collection.

  3. Thanks for your work as usual, Mike.  No movies for me this week as I thought Apocalypse was extremely below par for an X-Men film, which I normally love, but I will not be adding this one to my collection.

Those Harry Potter double dips appear to be the same discs as Target has had an exclusive on for a while now, which from what I have heard simply pair each film with one of the making-of documentaries already available in the larger complete-series box set.  I won't be getting those, but anybody interested in Harry Potter *should* note that a much more worthwhile double dip is available this week in the form of Jim Kay's illustrated edition of the Chamber of Secrets novel.  The illustrated editions began last year with Sorcerer's Stone, and almost every page of it has gorgeous full-color paintings.  It is the most beautiful book that I own, and since Mr. Kay is illustrating the entire series, I expect the Chamber of Secrets volume to be equally wonderful.  If you're in the mood to buy a Harry Potter-related item this week that you already have a previous edition of, the illustrated book will give you more new value for your buck than any of those repackaged Blu-rays.  I can't wait for my copy to come from Amazon and would highly recommend it to anyone who even thinks they're interested.  Last year, I took my time buying Sorcerer's Stone because I thought, "Do I really need another copy of that booK?", but then I went into a store to look at it and my jaw dropped.  It's really, really terrific and a worthwhile addition to your bookshelf, even if you already have the older editions too, and I can't wait to see how Mr. Kay has visualized the second book.

Here is the Amazon link to the new one, although it's not HTF-ified since I don't know how to do that: https://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-Chamber-Secrets-Illustrated/dp/0545791324/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1475389206&sr=1-3&keywords=chamber+of+secrets.

  4. I received the Best Buy exclusives yesterday:

    • The Ghost and Mr. Chicken
    • It Came from Outer Space
    • October Sky

    My other pre-orders this week:

    • The Earth Dies Screaming
    • Mr. Deeds Goes to Town

Very excited to replace my DVD of Mr. Deeds. The Screaming earth is a blind buy. I hope I am not disappointed.

  5. I received the Best Buy exclusives yesterday:

    • The Ghost and Mr. Chicken
    • It Came from Outer Space
    • October Sky

    .

It looks looks like prices for each dropped to 7.99 ea.  If yours already showed up then you may want to hit CSR up for a $6+ price difference

Mine haven't shipped so hopefully it will automatically adjust at posting

  6. Will "It Came from Outer Space" be available in BB stores on Tuesday? I'm hoping the $7.99 price point holds until then.

It's supposed to be in store according to a BBY employee report though I guess that depends on your store and there shipped product.   No prices listed, but with the price just dropping today it would surprise me if it's only a 2 day drop

  7. It was included in one of the "new release" sites I compile my weekly list from.  I can't swear by them as–like anything else–there are occasional inclusions and exclusions in those lists.

Most times, though, I find the titles that are missing or have been pushed back to later dates as I research all the links for the Amazon prices.  But since that one didn't have an Amazon link, it might've slipped through the cracks.

A quick look around isn't showing me anything either.  I guess I'll go pull that from the grid.

    Sorry for the incorrect info.

  8. My BB had all three exclusives on shelf. 4-5 copies of each. 7.99

Saw 2 copies ea of the exclusives  though I've already ordered those so didn't look incredibly hard at numbers.

Criterion.com faked me out again on the Flash sale so now hoping it slides to 10/11 though 10/6 is certainly possible, but I'd love to get the delayed McCabe and Mrs Miller early (or late given I had it planned the last time).

  9. My BB had all three exclusives on shelf. 4-5 copies of each. 7.99

Pretty much the same at mine. Picked up It Came from Outer Space and The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. How can you not at $7.99? Not sure why I didn't grab October Sky too.

I'll order Mr. Deeds from Amazon and get X-men eventually if I can ever figure out which version. 4K or 3D or just punt and buy the 2D version when it drops in price.

  10. I'm a Steelbook addict, so I used the $5 off bundling deal with X-Men: Apocalypse as justification to upgrade my X2 DVD to a Steelbook Blu-ray, even though $14.99 would normally be way more than I'd be willing to spend on upgrading a catalog title.

    Thanks as always, Mike!

Best Buy had several different exclusive Steelbook catalog titles for about $10.00 and at least one in the $5.99

  12. Best Buy had several different exclusive Steelbook catalog titles for about $10.00 and at least one in the $5.99

Thanks very much for the helpful heads up, but I'm very glad I didn't see this until I got home. My wallet has endured enough pain recently!
