The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in…as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don’t get paid for this, and I don’t have the time to list every DVD. So, please don’t complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

The Specials

–Here’s our annual blast from the past.  It was 14 years ago this week that I composed my first Weekly RoundUp (when I infamously “Wally Pipp”-ed Dave Lambert.  HERE’S that first WRU.

–Best Buy has, this week, what may be the worst ad in the history of its store (in terms of media).

–Best Buy shows that they will have releases of It (in Blu and 4k UHD) in both standard packaging AND EXCLUSIVE STEELBOOK PACKAGING…and that those new releases are “Starting at $24.99.”

–Best Buy also shows some sets of Game of Thrones admonishing us to “Get in the Game.”  And those sets are “Starting at $24.99.”

–Best Buy is advertising that you can pre-order Disney’s Lady and the Tramp.  Available in Blu-ray and in EXCLUSIVE STEELBOOK PACKAGING.

–If you want to gaze upon this uselessness, Best Buy’s Weekly Ad is available at THIS LINK.

–Target this week has EXCLUSIVE LENTICULAR PACKAGING + 5 UNIQUE POSTCARDS with their Blu-ray copies of It.

–Target is also advertising an EXCLUSIVE RELEASE of the My Little Pony Movie on Blu-ray.  The bonus consists of an EXCLUSIVE ACTIVITY BOOK & STICKERS.

–Target is also advertising a ‘Best of 2017 TV Sale.”  Titles shown and more:

$19.99:  Stranger Things: Season 1

$29.99:  Walking Dead: Season 7

  1. Hellloooooooooooooooo, RoundUppers!

This is the first WRU of 2018. Meaning its been 14 years that I've been putting these things together. Wanna see what came out on 1-4-2004? Look for the link in the RoundUp.

And we have also tweaked the banner picture at the top of the RoundUp.

So as we start Year 15…safe shopping everybody! 😀

  2. Happy 15th Mike :razz:opcorn::banana::dancing-banana-04:…
RIP Circuit City … I almost never found advertised sale items (or one of the two items required for a discount was oos) in stock but I could take the circular across the street to Best Buy (or later … Wal*Mart) for a price match …

One of the things that always makes me smile looking back to those early years is the warning (which was usually a weekly event on the big titles) to be careful that some titles had dual releases: OAR and MAR. But that's definitely one of those things I don't miss.

Even harder to explain the the customer dis-service person at Best Buy
CSR:"So why are you wanting to exchange this?"
    Me: "It's not 'widescreen' …"
CSR: "The box is the same size"
Me: "There's actually more of the original movie picture to see … This box says 'widescreen' and this box says 'Fullscreen' …see"
CSR: "Did you open it to see if it was the right size?"
Me: "If I had opened the package you wouldn't accept it for exchange… and NO I did not open it … See the shrinkwrap and your pricetag is still there …"
CSR: (to another CSR) "Look at this there are two different SKUs for the same movie. Can he exchange this one for the other? He didn't open it …"
2nd CSR "Does he have a (BBY loyalty card)?" Looks up purchases … "Go ahead and do it [under her breath] he spends enough here…"

Lots of people who still post regularly, and lots of people who haven't been heard from in a long time.

That's the other thing about whenever I look at those threads! I see so many names who used to be regular participants who haven't been heard from in a long time. It's sad. But, then, there are some who've been steadies the whole time! And THAT'S cool! 😀

  6. Joe Isham

    Happy Anniversary!

Unfortunately, Doctor Who: Shada has been postponed to September 4.

FWIW — the DEC UK release is region free, but 50HZ so if your equipment is compatible it's not a bad option though pricing so far hasn't been very conducive

Unfortunately, chances are atleast one or two have moved on to "bigger, better things", if you know what I mean :>… But, yes, it is cool indeed how many have remained steadfast all this time..

I never had a chance to see It during its theatrical run, so I sprung for the 4K UHD at release day prices with no regrets. Still cheaper than a night out for two at the theater. 🙂

    Stop saying the word!

  9. Hah! I just re-read all four pages of that 2004 thread.

I ended up with this gig all because Dave's PC had some Winsock corruption issue! Remember those?

I think I should be blaming Bill Gates here…

What would Dave have been running at the time? Windows Vista? XP? 😀

Lmao apparently I preordered it the day it went up.

  11. Sam Posten

Lmao apparently I preordered it the day it went up.

That's the spirit, Sam, that we come to expect from HTF members!

Order it without thinking….forget you ordered it…and then agonize about whether you should order it. So you look more closely at the item…only to find out that you had already ordered it!
