Technical specifications for the Single Movie disc edition
The-Hunt-for-Red-October-1990-4K-UHD-Packshot-scaled.jpg

...seems to be exciting for the HDR content and folks... however...

Clear-and-Present-Danger-1994-4K-UHD-Packshot-scaled.jpg

...your excitement will be drenched with cold water when you see "2.39:1 FullFrame" on the other Jack Ryan parts.

That has got to be a typo. I can’t see Paramount releasing a full-frame version of this film in 4k.

Then PARAMOUNT INTERNATIONAL should deserve a spank on the butt for poor quality control over their product information...

...where only the non-HARRISON FORD sequels get the same treatment with the Connery pioneer of the whole series with "2.39 Letterbox"

2.39:1 letterboxed, not anamorphic? This is completely unacceptable, if accurate.

I recently ordered (and returned, kinda sorta) a steel book of RO. I sure hope this is a different and better transfer.

Hmmm... If it's me, i would be "hoodwinked" by the word ANAMORPHIC as well on the coverart...

...believing that the ANAMORPHIC transfer gives "better" qualities
than the 4K release where the "real qualities" of transfer is in doubt and questionable...

The uhd didn’t seem particularly detailed and in dark scenes (there are a lot) there is blooming blue effect and it’s really distracting.

I have to disagree. I found the UHD BD looking much more filmlike. There are blown out highlights on the old BD, some edge enhancement, and detail not as good.

I do agree in a sense it's not a "bright" movie, but I don't believe it was intended to look that way.

Perhaps my steelbook is a different transfer. When it bought it it was inexpensive and when I returned it, Amazon refunded my money and said don’t bother to return it.

There is no way that it’s a different transfer. I would say whatever 4k transfer they did is what was available at the time of the Steelbook release and what is being reissued now.

I am surprised Amazon would even think of refunding a Blu-ray/4k disc. Most stores don’t let you return opened video discs. That’s probably why they told you to keep it. You got lucky on that one.

I believe it is more of a money saving / time saving thing. I had a damaged box set and Amazon said just keep it and they sent me another one. I think sometimes they just do not want to bother taking it back and dealing with it.

Amazon isn't perfect but I do believe they are at the forefront when it comes to using analytics to fairly serve their customers. I would bet in both cases here, the outcome had to do with your overall record as Amazon customers, just as it should be.
