CELEBRATE THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY

OF THE ACCLAIMED CLASSIC

STARRING GREGORY PECK, DAVID NIVEN,

AND ANTHONY QUINN

SYNOPSIS

Academy Award®-winners Gregory Peck (1962, Best Actor, To Kill A Mockingbird), David Niven (1958, Best Actor, Separate Tables), and Anthony Quinn (1952, Best Supporting Actor, Viva Zapata!; 1956, Lust For Life) star as a team of Allied military specialists recruited for a dangerous but imperative mission: to infiltrate a Nazi-occupied fortress and disable two long-range field guns so that 2,000 trapped British soldiers may be rescued. Faced with an unforgiving sea voyage, hazardous terrain, and the possibility of a traitor among them, the team must overcome the impossible without losing their own lives. Adapted by screenwriter Carl Foreman from Alistair MacLean’s best-selling novel, THE GUNS OF NAVARONE was nominated for seven Oscars®, including Best Picture, and won for Best Special Effects (1961).

Nice cover art, but boo on no new features. A Main Title Progression Reel is nothing to jump up for joy about at least not in my book.

Nice on including the original audio in lossless! At least I'm hoping it's lossless. Another BD going into the sell pile. Prefer to sell them after these. Wonder why the audio commentaries weren't on the 4K disc.

Something worthwhile like new or archived interviews, behind the scenes footage things like that. I’m pretty sure they could find something interesting in their vaults if they looked.
That stuff is alright, but doesn't really move the needle for me. Looking in the vaults for such stuff is probably not worth the effort for them. IMO, that’s their thinking.

That’s all studios thinking, that’s why there’s boutique companies that now handle a bulk of their libraries these days and that they can have access to their vaults and archives when putting a title together.

The real & major reason for this reissue is the upgrade to 4K . You have claimed "4k is a fad and everyone knows it." Why should you possibly care about this release which is most definitely not aimed at you ?

Who are you to dictate what is aimed to me or not?

I haven't seen this film in years, but I don't remember it being in very good shape. Does anyone have any information regarding the condition of the original negative, existing prints, how this new disc will be produced and from what elements, etc.?

The press release stated this disc is derived from the OCN.

This is where we go over the wording of the press release with a fine tooth comb. The Blu-ray release from ten years ago was a 4K scan of the originals, so are they using that scan, or is this a new scan? And if the original scan was the best they could do, then why not use it. There's been massive improvements on what they can do in the last ten years, so I'll be interested to see comparisons between the new & the old transfers (& is it the same old Blu-ray?). All this makes me want to see the film again, I haven't watched the old Blu-ray for around nine years, I think I'll run it this week.

Going by the screen grabs on DVDBeaver the 2011 blu looks very dark like Kino’s Producers and Good, Bad, And Ugly are.

Hey, it’s got Atmos! I like that. Since I’ve never owned this, all the extras share brand new to me. What is a “limited edition o-ring”? What will it sell for?
