'm wondering if Salidos Amogos is the untampered version.

I haven't seen the Blu-ray yet either, but I would be shocked if it were. Once Disney decides to edit something, it would be incredibly inconsistent with their past behavior if the unedited version ever saw the light of day again. I'm sure Saludos Amigos will be the same as it is on its DVD release, only in HD.

There may be a ray of hope. When the documentary Walt And El Groupo was released on DVD, it included the untampered version of Saludios Amigos.

  4. I ordered from an eBay seller and I should have it by Wednesday or Thursday. Much cheaper in the long run than to get stuck buying Million Dollar Duck and Monkeys Go Home and stuff like that I'll never watch.

    +1 Me, too!

I'm told mine will get to me sometime next week.

    Thank God.

I received Saludos Amigos/Three Caballeros on blu-ray today. Kudos to Disney for releasing Saludos Amigos in its original format without edits!

There will be an uptick in tots picking up smoking thanks to Disney. The horror!

    😀

I'm assuming there's some anti-smoking message at the head of the disc?

As long as the feature is uncut, I couldn't care less.

Buy stock in tobacco companies. Hook them in the crib! Kiss a baby smoker! Pollute America's young! Pack the disc with candy cigarettes (I used to love those; never cared for the real thing).
I grew up watching all these features uncut and I never took up smoking, so I never understood the harm. Oh, well…

  9. I complained to Disney about the lack of release of classic live-action films on blu ray and the lack of extras and bonus material on the ones they do release. We’ll see if they change their ways. However, this release is very encouraging — and the fact that it is uncensored is awesome. I’ll never understand why people think they need to change history. Present it the way it was so we can learn how it was.

  10. well my first order one ebay got canceled, but was quick enough to send me an email, so go through the process again, cost a little more this time because i added the Return of Jafar/ Aladdin and the King of Thieves blu to the same order.

seriously i wish that they would release Melody Time/Make Mine Music, and The Black Cauldron, this is the world we live in folks, Home on the Range, got a wide release, as did Treasure Planet, but The Black Cauldron can't?

  11. Ordered on Ebay, got canceled, than found it cheaper from another seller. Hopefully comes through next week. Didn't realize the Aladdin extra movies were out on Blu, will have to check that out.

  12. Wow I see this this is going for $40-$50 on ebay. Just surprised that people are willing to pay that much and go through the risk and hassle of ebay when you can get it so cheap through the club. They normally have all titles 40-50% after you buy 1 at regular price. So I am ordering it for $15. Get 5 movies for $1 when you join plus one of your 3 commitment titles for $13 then you only buy two more titles at regular price and you can buy all the exclusives you want for $12.50-$15.00 each and then cancel if you don't want to stay in. Everything can be done online no phone calls and nothing to mail in if you do it online, very easy and hassle free. oh well gotta give credit to the people on ebay getting $50 for these when you can easily get it through the club for $12.50-$15.00.

  13. I already have the regular Disney blu-rays that I want. And the exclusives don't appeal much to me. Perhaps I'm wrong and Monkeys Go Home is a classic of cinema… But I don't think I'll ever get around to finding out.

  17. My finger is on the order button…I'm not sure what's holding me back. I can certainly create a big enough order with no problems…this title, probably a Herbie or two, Treasure Island, who knows what else. But something is holding me back, which is very strange for me. Maybe I'm waiting for free shipping again, whenever that rolls around?

I hear ya. I'm so spoiled by Amazon Prime that every time I order something elsewhere, I do a double take when I see the final total. I literally forget that shipping costs money! I mean, I know Amazon Prime costs too, but it's only $12.99 a month, which is an absolute steal given how often I use it.

Same here, since they have to restore an entire segment to Make Mine Music.

Yeah, "The Martins and the Coys." It IS on the UK DVD (I own both), so it's not lost (like the original Deems Taylor bits for Fantasia).

I love Make Mine Music and Melody Time. Fantasia is my all-time favorite Disney film, and these exist in that same universe. It's the closest Disney ever got to his plan of having Fantasia be ongoing and ever-evolving. I'm taking this release of Saludos Amigos/The Three Cabelleros as a possible sign that they're on the horizon. I'd love to see a Fantasia Legacy Blu-ray set with both Fantasias, Make Mine Music and Melody Time. Who knows, maybe they're already planning this, and THAT's why they're still MIA. Hey, I can dream, right?

  23. Have they censored/change like redubbing the segment when they said/sing the sentence bellow ?

"Now we are three gay caballeros"
"We are three caballeros, three gay caballeros… they said we are birds of a feather"

I heard about many crazy or ignant evangelic pastors here (my country) saying Disney is something from devil. They based this complete nonsense because heard about some Disney tapes with sexual messages, which was cartoons victim of sabotage during VHS production, and had inserted some porn subliminar messagtes (frames with altered image of short fast nude).

Now I imagine they are also ignorant to don't know that the word "gay" before the 60's was used as adjetive to "happy, vivid", and not about sexual orientation. If they watch this video they will say it's the devil. 😆
Others even more crazy pastor says Disney ist's ofensive to children due the fact Donald and Daisy Duck are not married.

Anyway Salutos AMigos Three Caballeros was part of of was called american's Good Neighbor Policy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Neighbor_policy
This cartoon character, Joe Carioca, was created with this finality :

Those had the edits, also. I think only the VHS and laser releases were uncensored.

And, as others have mentioned, the latest DVD releases in the UK are uncut for both Make Mine Music and Melody Time. They're PAL, which is a shame, but uncut at least. I know they aren't the greatest films, but there are some nice segments in them. I'd upgrade to Blu-ray if they're released uncensored.

  25. If you cut all the good parts of Make Mine Music and Melody Time together and threw out the bad ones, you would have a single excellent comp feature. But that's true of Saludos Amigos and Three Caballeros too.

  26. I've only ever seen the truncated version of Make Mine Music and The Martins and the Coys segment separately [on YouTube]. I love what's there in MMM, but would love to see The Martins and the Coys returned to its proper context.

  27. I remember watching that on The Disney Channel in 1989 around the time my sister had been born, and IIRC it was uncut. I can't remember taping it because if I did, then I must have taped over it. I figured if it was on TDC it would be available for sale eventually; Cinderella aired there that same year. Little did I know about the revisionism to come.

In the twilight of the "What Would Walt Do" era, Mel Shaw and Wolfgang Reitherman proposed Musicana, which would have been basically a world music-based package film. That's something I still think could work, but about 20 years later they did a Fantasia sequel instead. But WDAS today could make it something really special if they really put their minds to it.

  28. I can confirm all the smoking scenes are intact in this release. It looks good — however, it seems that it has been so digitally scrubbed that every ounce of grain is gone. It has been so overly digitally cleaned that it almost looks a bit smeary. I know Disney is known for this but it is very apparent during the live-action sequences.

You want to see terrifying "HD" versions of classic Disney animation? Check out the collections of shorts that are on Netflix right now. They look like upscales, for the most part, and have had so much DNR done to them that they look like early DVD animated discs where outlines have been erased all over the place. It's such a shame, because those classic shorts were beautifully drawn.

Ironically, the majority of Walt Disney Treasures releases didn't look that bad, even the even-numbered Donald Duck volumes that used older masters. I still go back to that any time I want to watch Mickey's Christmas Carol. It still looks better than that smear-storation on Blu-ray, and it still has that wonderful making-of documentary that shows what Disney was like the last full year Walt's family was in charge.

Does this actually look good to them, or is this just to tide us over until real restorations of the Walt-era shorts come out?

  31. For anyone interested, unfortunately there is an audio error in The Three Caballeros Bluray as I hear.
I have the HD digital file and they say it's the same in the bluray. I assume this was created from the conversion of the original audio to 5.1.

The music and words are stuck in a spot near the end, where the choral line should be, "we're always together, so let come what may…"
Here's how it is in the errored version with the words and music stuck on "leeeeeeeeet"! (at 1.05'')

And here' s how it should be, with the music advancing and ending the phrase at "maaaaaaaaay" (at 1.11''):

I have the CAV laserdisc box set- do I need this?

I'd still hold onto it if you appreciated all of the great extras on the set. The new Blu-ray has no extras. I'll be keeping my laserdisc set if only for the 16mm documentary on the Disney team's trip to South America by plane.

Lots of the 16mm color footage from that trip is in the 2008 documentary "Walt and El Grupo." The DVD is still in print and listed on Amazon.

  34. I've been wanting these in my collection for a long time, but was holding off for a BD release. However, I don't want to join the movie club, so I bought one from a third party seller. Looking forward to seeing these. I have most of the Walt Disney Treasures tins, so I've seen El Gaucho Goofy and clips from other segments. Even with the scrubbed transfers, I'm glad these were made available at all. I wonder if the "restored" opening was only allowed on disc because of the limited way in which the discs are being sold.

  35. A couple weeks earlier than expected, but it appears DMC has moved Saludos to enrollment eligible — for those people who were holding out on an enrollment until this item was available for the first 5-7 item package.
