Razer and THX launch spatial audio app for PC gamers

Razer and THX have launched the Razer THX Spatial Audio App for Windows 10 designed to increase a sense of immersion in gaming. Featuring “advanced” 7.1 surround sound with adjustable virtual speakers for positional accuracy, the Razer THX Spatial Audio App promises to enhance gameplay by creating a three-dimensional sound field. The app is available on Razer.com for $19.99 USD (24.99€), and is compatible with all headphones and earbuds.

“Together with THX, we have developed an immersive audio solution that addresses the core gamers’ needs – dynamic and accurate positional audio,” said Alvin Cheung, senior vice president of Razer’s peripherals business unit. “We’ve achieved this by drawing on THX’s cinematic audio expertise, then adding a wide range of customization tools, to fine tune and personalize the listener’s soundscape.”

“THX is pleased to work with Razer to offer our THX Spatial Audio technology to enhance the gaming experience,” said Jason Fiber, senior vice president and general manager of THX Ltd. mobile technologies. “It also provides for more true-to-life sound when enjoying music and movies.”

The new app includes positional sound for 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound as well as 2-channel stereo sources by using an advanced rendering engine allowing for a wider soundscape. The accurate location of a sound should give players an advantage over competitors and reduce their fatigue by no longer having to strain to hear opponents. There are also a number of customizable options onboard including speaker positioning, volume, and distance for fine-tuning to an individual’s preferences. The Razer THX app will work with all types of headphones and earbuds, including 3.5mm headsets, USB and Bluetooth models.
