Polk Audio debuts MagniFi Max immersive sound bars

Polk Audio has introduced two new flagship sound bar systems, the MagniFi Max AX ($799) and MagniFi Max AX SR ($899), available next month. Both include Dolby Atmos and DTS:X immersive audio via 11-speaker arrays with center channels, up-firing height speakers and Polk’s patented Stereo Dimensional Array (SDA) technology. Both also use wireless subwoofers and the higher-priced MagniFi Max AX SR adds two wireless surround speakers.

“The MagniFi Max AX and MagniFi Max AX SR leverage 50 years of Polk speaker design expertise to deliver Polk’s best sound bar to date,” said Frank Sterns, Polk Audio President. “And with Polk’s patented Stereo Dimensional Array (SDA) and Voice Adjust technologies, the Magnify Max AX and MagniFi Max AX SR will fill any room with exceptional sound without filling the room with speakers. Add built-in wireless music streaming and you have the ultimate all-in-one entertainment hub.”

Polk’s SDA tech promises to eliminate interaural crosstalk for a room-filling and “ultra-wide” soundstage. Both systems each include a 10-inch down-firing wireless subwoofer. The MagniFi Max AX can be upgraded independently with the wireless surround speakers (included in the more expensive package), for a further $199. Onboard music, TV and music modes enable content customization. A night mode bolsters speech and lowers bass and a proprietary VoiceAdjust feature enhances dialogue intelligibility.

Both systems support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth streaming via Apple AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast, Spotify Connect, or any Works with Alexa-enabled music service. The bars can also combine for a multi-room music listening system. There are three 4K HDMI In and one Out connections, eARC or ARC compatibility and one optical input. Both packages include an OLED-screen remote.
