M&K Sound has today announced the launch of the IW150A in-ceiling and in-wall loudspeaker. Priced at $1,099 and available in October, it forms part of the company’s legendary 150 Series of home cinema speakers, and which M&K says is ideal for using as a height channel for Dolby Atmos and other immersive audio formats.
The IW150A includes a 15-degree fixed angled tweeter and 5.7-degree fixed angle pair of woofers, which should produce generous off-axis response characteristics. The speaker can also function as an angled down- or angled up-firing front LCR speaker where real-world placement options are limited (i.e. above or below a flat-panel display), or as an in-wall or in-ceiling based surround or music speaker.

Like other speakers in the 150 range, the IW150A can reproduce reference level film audio and sound pressure levels (SPL) in rooms of up 3,000 cubic feet (85 cubic meters). It imports two of the 150 Series’ identical 5.25-inch coated glass fibre woofers and one 1.1-inch coated silk dome tweeter for perfect timbre-matching with other speakers in M&K’s portfolio. The IW150A uses a 30-degree voicing angle and vertical dispersion window of +/- 30 degrees (+/- 2dB) from the line of sight, and a stable vertical dispersion window of +/- 45 degrees for even audience coverage. Wide horizontal dispersion of +/- 60 degrees optimizes dialogue intelligibility and front soundstage effects placement when used as an in-wall LCR speaker.
The flat frequency response and 90dB sensitivity rating enable excellent dynamics and M&K’s signature neutral sonic quality. Installation is made easier with its slim 3.74-inch housing depth. Heavy duty screws and rubber pads on the surround ensure a “resonance-free” fastening to a dry wall or other surface. For more information on specs and a worldwide dealer list, visit M&K Sound.
