I wanted to like it. But the story was ultimately pointless. Nothing really changed for the wild things as far as I could tell, or for Max for that matter.

And I kinda felt cheated that they didn't have a scene in Max's room where the forest grew. That was my favorite part of the book as a kid. Modern CGI could have made that pretty cool. Instead, he just ran away and stole a boat.

(Oh, the giant puppets made me feel like I was watching H.R. Pufnstuff: The Movie)

I'm not sure the story was anymore pointless than in the book: he became king of the wild things, had a wild rumpus, got lonely, returned home. I understood that as the theme: crazy little boys need moms who love them, even if they don't realize it.
