EPV introduces light-rejecting UST projection screen

EPV Screens has announced the release of its Dark Star Max UST-FR Series of motorized floor-rising projection screens with ceiling & ambient light-rejecting material for UST Projectors.

“Projection screens that shine bright in brightly lit rooms are very popular right now and many people are seeking not just a dark room video display but something that can replace the household TV-set and that means high performance with the lights on.” Said Dave Rodgers, Marketing Manager of EPV Screens. “What distinguishes this product is that the material is specially formatted for use with ultra-short throw projectors, and it’s durable enough to exist as a motorized free-standing screen.”

The company says the new screen is a “non-invasive” motorized free-standing electric projection screen which includes a ceiling/ambient light rejecting (CLR/ALR) material optimized for ultra-short throw projection. The design features motorized “scissor-backed” cross risers for raising and lowering the material.

Matte white screen materials work less well for daylight or lights-on conditions so DarkStar is designed to mitigate the washout effects of ambient light, while boosting color saturation, contrast and black/white dynamic range. In order to keep the footprint of the screen compact, the material is formatted with tab-tension reinforcement to work specifically with UST (ultra-short throw) projectors. Of course one of the advantages here is that there is no foot traffic passing between projector and screen, and the product gives the appearance of an integrated big-screen display.

EPV also says that free-standing screens are an ideal solution for rooms where ceiling or wall-mounted models are impractical. The screen comes with a tubular motor allowing for quick operation, and the black enamel aluminium housing itself is moisture resistant. The IR/RF control package will automatically stop during the lowering operation if there are any obstructions (like children’s fingers) detected.

There is no pricing here as this product is technically available only through residential custom integration channels, but the Dark Star Max UST-FR screen can be ordered in 100″ or 120″ sizes with a 16:9 aspect ratio. A 5-year manufacturer’s warranty is included.
