Denon introduces premium Home Sound Bar 550

Denon has introduced the $599 Home Sound Bar 550, capable of delivering Dolby Atmos and DTS:X 3D from a six-driver array, and available from February. As well as the ability to stream hi-res music while leveraging Denon’s HEOS ecosystem, the 550 can be combined with other Denon Home products for wireless surround setups or multi-room applications. The Home 150, 250 and 350 within the same lineup can all be used as rear surrounds, for example.

“Denon has developed a well-deserved reputation as a leader in high-fidelity music and home theater reproduction throughout its 110-year history. Our goal with the Denon Home Sound Bar 550 was to create a great-sounding, easy-to-use sound bar that gives music and movie lovers everything they expect from Denon without the complexity of a component-based system,” said Michael McCole, senior product marketing manager at Sound United.

The 550’s control panel lights up automatically as your hand approaches it, while Quick Select buttons allow a preferred source to be combined with a specific listening mode. As well as including eARC and Apple Airplay 2 compatibility, the bar is Roku TV Ready and there are onboard drivers for Control4, Crestron and other smart home platforms. Several streaming services are supported, such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music HD and TIDAL.

From the spring of this year, the 550 and owners of other Denon wireless speaker products will be able to activate Amazon Alexa via firmware update, and built-in microphones are already onboard the sound bar range.
