Your REALISTIC wish-list for the first 12 months (1 Viewer)

i know there are a couple threads already similar to this- but the differnce is those are mostly pie-in-the-sky fantasy lists. What i want to know is- What titles are you realistically hoping to see available within the next 12 months.
To qualify as realistic-no catalog titles more than 10 years old, unless -
-they have an anniversary this year
-they are expected to be reissued in an SE (on DVD) within the year- or have been within the last couple of years
-they have tie-in potential with a movie due to be released within the next 12 months

for catalog titles within the last 10 years, they have to be either major titles (i.e. high profile award winners, big grossers, etc) or titles that have proven very big sellers on DVD.

i'll kick this off with a couple for now including my reasons for thinking they may be viable for early release

Flash Gordon (Universal)- this has widely been rumoured to be in production already for a DVD SE release, and was even expected last year. The eye candy, and cult appeal of this would make it a perfect deeper catalog title to release

L.A. Confidential (Warner) an anniversary SE release in 2007 is a given so there is a possiblity it could see release within the first Quarter of the next year.

Blade Runner (Warner): DC reissue strongly rumored recently. 25th anniversary in 2007. Added points if in the interim Perenchio kicks the bucket.

Gattaca (Sony): 10th anniversary in 2007. During an interview on Lord of War, Andrew Niccol confided there was an SE in the works.

Hamlet (Warner): 10th anniversary in 2006. Bonus materials reportedly under production.

Following you criteria I would go with

Braveheart Best picture, best director, and has an OK dvd edition, but could use a better overall presentation. Please great wilderness visual can really look impressive and natural on HDDVD/Bluray.

Forrest Gump Same as above.


JawsJust due to being my favorite movie and I would want to have it in the best possible edition availible.

I don't know if it's realistic or not, but I would really like to see:

Star Wars SAGA(all 6 films): 30th Anniversary in 2007

Indiana Jones Trilogy: Tie in for upcoming 4th Indiana Jones film

LOTR Trilogy: self explanatory

Ryan, I want Jaws too (and Jaws 2). Badly. But i don't think it's realistic to expect it, given the way Spielberg parceled out his catalog on DVD. The next Anniversary year would be 2010- but maybe Universal could convince him to release it before then. But within the next 12 months seem highly unlikely.

A tie-in with Indy 4 might get those out much in much less time than it took with DVD- but not within the first year.

Star Wars, given it's 30th Anniversary next could be a wild card. we do know LFL reps have stated there were plans for more elaborate editions, and now that Lucas has busted his cherry on tiny little digital discs, maybe the next level won't be so great a leap. within 12 months though wouldn't seem likely ...but maybe within the next 18?

I beleive Braveheart WAS on the list for Paramounts format launch titles. Gump may have been on there as well (can't remember).
It sounds like we will know for sure What Paramount and Universals 1st waves will consist of towards the end of next week.

LOTR- New Line has the opportunity to bring to the format(s) the first big killer app. i would hope they would make it out, if not in the first 12 months of the formats launch, then at least within the first 12 months of New Lines titles launch.

Here's another i think will be a good bet-
Arthur silver anniversary is this year. Warner hinted a new transfer is ready to go, and there's a good chance of being released by the end of the year on SD. And it would be a good opportunity to get a well liked, non action, comedy catalog title on the format. The argument against it would be that Warner appears to have already leaked its list for all its 2006 releases, so unless they are willing to augment that, we wouldn't see it in its anniversary year. But maybe by the end of the first quarter of '07?

The MatrixJust the first one. I say this one because it has a decent dvd edition by todays standards, but could use a super edition. I believe it already has a release date though.

Blade Trilogy(becasue of the TV-show)
Harry Potter 1-4(1,2 and 4 already on releaselist for HD-DVD)
BATMAN Begins(already on releaselist for HD-DVD)


are TV-shows allowed if so:
Lost Season 2
24 Season 5
Alias 5

I don't think Star Wars will se a reelase in 2007. Lucasfilm saif they won't release their movies as long as there is a formatwar

My "REALISTIC" wish list, is that the announced 2006 titles from the two battling formats, are indeed released this year.

May not seem like a lot, however;

HD-DVD has 'promised' to have 200 titles out by years end seems like a "wish list" to me. That is over twenty titles a month, for the next nine months.
&
BluRay has 'announced' it will have even more titles, in less time.

I say; good luck to both, they will need it big time!

My vote, somewhat sentimentally, goes to Twister , just because it was one of the first DVD's released, and secondly because I have yet to see a copy of it thats actually any good on disc: no region version has yet to satisfy me for picture quality. Hopefully, the HD version should improve things in this department.

My realistic wish list is that

1) we get new releases at the same time and date as regular DVDs

2) a steady flow of catalog titles

3) some classics released on one or both of the formats (Casablanca, Citizen Kane, that sort of thing).

I'll be satied if they deliver the above three.
