Thanks to having MoviePass for the past few months, I've seen more movies in the theaters this year than perhaps any other year in my life. I did miss a lot of significant movies in the first half of the year. But here are my ratings so far of movies released in 2017, and I hope some others will share their ratings as well, because I'm sure there are still a lot of good movies from this year that I've missed. I hope to catch some of the movies I've missed either streaming or on blu-ray at some point, and maybe some of them are still in the theaters. Wikipedia has a helpful article on 2017 in Film that lists all of the major releases chronologically:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_in_film

Here are my ratings of the movies I've seen from 2017, listed in the order of release.....

Beauty and the Beast: B+

Alien: Covenant: C-
Wonder Woman: B+
My Cousin Rachel: B+
Baby Driver: B-

Lady Bird: B+
Murder on the Orient Express: A-
Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing Missouri: C+
Justice League: C-

Again, hope some others will share their ratings on some of the movies they've seen too....

Well, isn't this a fun idea for a thread?

So far, I've seen 71 films in the theater this year. (This is my running tally which counts re-releases of older films on occasion, as well as duplicates if from time to time I see the same film more than once.)

Without going through the whole list, I'll say that most recently, last night, I saw The Breadwinner and it is unquestionably an A+.

Among other current releases that are still playing, Lady Bird and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri are also both A+ grades.

Last Flag Flying is a A- for being maybe a touch overlong and featuring corny subplots, like the long, unfunny and unnecessary scene of three main characters buying sell phones for the first time, which stands out as a sore thumb in an otherwise really terrific movie.

Coco is a C to C- range depending on my mood; the world they built for the movie was cool but the plot unfolding in it just really didn't work for me to any large degree.

Murder on the Orient Express is a B, since it was good, and entertaining, and there's nothing really wrong with it, but it's also pretty conventional and standard-issue. I liked it very much while it was on but haven't thought much about it since then, as opposed to the better films which I'm still turning over in my head a week or more after seeing them.

Adding....

The Man Who Invented Christmas: A

My wife and I both really enjoyed this movie. Christopher Plummer, Dan Stevens, the rest of the cast, the screenplay, and the production design are all first rate. My favorite movie of the year so far.

Wish I had kept a list of the movies I've seen so, I'm trying to go off memory because the MP app doesn't always save your movies in the history section. I think this is everything I've seen this year. I'm also included a handful that I missed in theaters and saw at home.

Beauty and the Beast: B
Alien: Covenant: B
Wonder Woman: A
Spiderman Homecoming: A-
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: C+

My favorite of the year so far is Three Billboards..., followed by Wind River and War for the Planet of the Apes.

Bold = Saw in theaters / Underline = MoviePass

Do you mean The Last Jedi, or are you just seeing The Force Awakens for the first time now?

I'll add The Last Jedi is an A+ in my book. One of the very best of the year.

Had a brain glitch lol! Yes, I meant The Last Jedi. I waver between and A and an A- for it. I'm planning on seeing it again tomorrow in 3D!++

I haven't been this excited about a Star Wars movie since The Empire Strikes back, which I saw in the theaters 6 times back in 1980.

I think it's too early for a top ten, for me at least. Whether or not I'll get to all of them is an open question but I have at least five or six more new releases I'm interested in seeing before December is out. Plus, multiple big titles which technically qualify as 2017 releases, like The Post, Call Me By Your Name, and I, Tonya won't screen in wide release until January. So I usually don't consider a best-of list until at least February in order to make sure I get to see as many of the late-breaking year-end releases as possible before I do one.

I only saw sixteen 2017 releases in theaters this year.

And I'd only put six on a best list:

WONDER WOMAN (U.S.)

I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO (U.S.-France, documentary)

YOUR NAME (KIMI NO NAWA) (Japan, animated)

IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD (Japan, animated) (pictured below)

POKÉMON THE MOVIE: I CHOOSE YOU (Japan, animated)

WOLF WARRIOR II (China)

At present my favorite cinema experience of 2017 was Blade Runner 2049. I believe there is only one film that could surpass it and that is Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread which I have not yet seen. Also looking forward to The Post and All the Money in the World.

I would also rank Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing Missouri as one of the year's best. Very much enjoyed Mother!, The Lost City of Z, Dunkirk and Wind River.

I'll put my thinking cap on in terms of what else I liked...

If you like grimy NYC movies, check out Good Time. The movie is funny (you have to laugh at the guy's bad luck) and messed up.

It's one I did not hear about until it recently came out on blu-ray and I am interested in seeing it. I keep forgetting all about it and for some reason I always blank on the name of it.
