I'm just wondering what many of you use to play your music once you've (legally, of course) downloaded it or ripped it off your owned CD's. There's many great programs out there, and I'm sure I've tried many of them, before settling on the one I use now.

So, what do you guys and gals use?

Winamp 2.91... I used to use Winamp 5, but the improvement wasnt enough to justify the resource use (even though its very little), so i went back to 2.91.

For video, i usually use Windows Media Player 6.4 for MPEGs, or winamp. Some videos with newer codecs such as WM9 though i have to use WMP9 or ZoomPlayer.

    I use Wimamp3...

Yes I know everyone has complaints with it, but I never had a single problem with it. I've played music for 12+ hours during BBQs in the summertime without incident. Sure it's slow to load, but it doesn't seem to lag while playing music. And I think since this was the first version of Winamp I got, I liked it the most . I forget now, but there are a couple features that are in version 3 that aren't in 2.9, 2.8, or 5.0. And for larger mpeg files I usually use a version of WMP for that.

Windows Media Player 9, because it can handle the 200 GB of mp3's from my CD collection.

I use the J. River Media Jukebox player because it provides gapless playback between tracks (where audio on the original CD is continuous from one track to the next). I'm using WMA Lossless compression and a Hoontech Soundtrack Audio DSP24 Value soundcard with optional digital I/O bracket, which provides bit-perfect output. The soundcard is connected via TOSLINK SPDIF to an Onkyo TX-DS898 receiver.

Does Winamp 5 still use more resources if you use the Winamp 2 skins?

Im not totally sure, i think it does, not as much as the fancy skins, but still. I know it takes longer to load even with v2 skins.

Since i dont use any of the extra features 5 provides anyhow, and 2.9 plays videos, i just stuck with 2.9

I use foobar for music http://foobar2000.org because I like the minimalistic interface, the minimal resource usage and the good sound quality.

Zoom Player for videos (although I watch the majority of my videos off my Xbox these days, using the Xbox Media Center software).

    Seungsoo:
Those plugins sound interesting... i downloaded them (both MAD and foobar using kernel streaming), are they supposed to improve sound quality? Are there any links and stuff about them? I'd like to know what/how they do what they do...

Interesting choices. Rite now I'm using Quinntessential player (QCD3). It's not well known, but it seems to get the job done. I've downloaded some very minimalistic skins for it, so it's got a very small footprint.
