You're making a mix-CD for all your buddies on HTF. Maybe not your favorite tunes, but some stuff you'd want everone to try. What 10-15 songs are on it?

    Mine:
    • The Velvet Underground, "I'm Waiting for the Man"
    • The Beatles, "Here, There and Everywhere"
    • Emmylou Harris, "Where Will I Be"
    • Simon and Garfunkel, "So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright"
    • Los Lobos, "Kiko and the Lavender Moon"
    • The Band, "Acadian Driftwood"
    • Led Zeppelin, "Thank You"
    • Billy Bragg, Wilco and Natalie Merchant, "Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key"
    • Ella Fitzgerald, "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered"
    • Luciano Pavarotti, "Nessun Dorma" (from Turandot)
    • Daniel Lanois, "Shine"
    • Bob Dylan, "Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts"
    • Talking Heads, "Road to Nowhere"

Good idea! I really have to say tho, its weird the way people get similar or the same ideas on this type of board.

As to Angelo's list, have to admit I only know 4 of those songs.

Well, if it's about who I think I am,:b presumptuous as that is to tell people who don't know me, one of my recent mixes

    1. Johnny Strikes Up the Band - Warren Zevon
    2. Like a Rolling Stone - Dylan
    3. Dadada - Trio
    4. Walk of Life - Mark Knopfler
    5. Radio Gaga - Queen
    6. Honky Cat - Elton John
    7. You Speak my Language - Morphine
    8. That's Life - Frank Sinatra
    9. The Joker - Steve Miller
    10. History Repeats - Miss Shirley Bassey with the Propellerheads (sp?)
    11. Twist in My Sobriety - Tanita Tikaram
    12. Abandoned Love - Everly Brothers
    13. Nothing Stays the Same - Percy Mayfield

I shoulda put "Beginning to See the Light" by VU on it. But that's way too much about me for now, somebody else jump on board the Musical Train!

(My next list will be my "uplifting" disk mix[IMG] )

As part of my crusade to get people everywhere to listen to jazz (slightly successful), accept alternative hip-hop (not very successful) and wake up to modern Marillion (miserable failure):

Charles Mingus- Better Get Hit in Your Soul
    Marillion- Quartz
    Blackalicious- Green Light
    King Crimson- Level Five
    Opeth- Godheads Lament
Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers- A Night in Tunisia
    Sonny Rollins- Freedom Suite

    Paul Simon - Duncan
    Wild Colonials - Charm
Aimee Mann - Choice in the Matter
Soul Coughing - Soundtrack to Mary
    Squirrel Nut Zippers - Hell
    X - Because I Do
    Minor Threat - Minor Threat
Dwight Yoakum - Streets of Bakersfield (the only accordian-inclusive song I can stomach)
Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen - Hot Rod Lincoln
    U2 - Dancin' Barefoot
Judas Priest - Green Manalishi with a Two-Prong Crown
    Vladimir Horowitz - Mozart: Sonata No.11, K. 331
    Kingston Trio - E Inu Tatou E

Mike, if there's space I'm adding Derek Truck's EVERY GOOD BOY. I've had fusion on the brain since the first time I heard Return To Forever, maybe even since I first heard King Crimson in '69...? How much would you pay?[IMG]

James: absolutely. Mermaid Avenue Vol. 1 is one of the best records of the '90s, as far as I'm concerned. Brilliant stuff.

Nothing, because my dear friend Rachael B would burn me a copy. Heh.

I heard one of Trucks' solo albums. I love his playing, of course, but I was bored by the songs. Can't remember the title of the disk, though...

I spend a lot of time making comps of faves. This one is my "best of 2003" mix although it's always tough to have to limit it to a mere 80 minutes. I could easily come up with a volume 2 in order to be able to include Wheat, The Shins, Moonbabies, Twilight Singers, Cat Power, The Wrens, TV On Radio, The Hidden Cameras, and on and on and on.

    01. Song For The Boys / Pat Metheny
    02. My Vision / Seal
    03. Time of Our Lives / Paul Van Dyk
    04. You're The Answer / Iris
    05. Love and Death / The Stills
    06. This Place Is A Prison / The Postal Service
    07. What Sound / Lamb
    08. What a Wonderful World / Sarah Brightman
    09. Fashionably Uninvited / Mellowdrone EP
    10. Boombox / Mosquitos
    11. Heartbreak Stroll / The Raveonettes
    12. Dance With Me / The Sounds
    13. Sister Saviour / The Rapture
    14. Broken glass / The Gathering
    15. The Game Is Not Over / T.Raumschmiere
    -Feat. Miss Kittin
    16. Lemon,Lime / Richard X-
    Feat. Deborah Evans
    17. We used to be friends / The Dandy Warhols
    18. Up to The Roof / Blue Man Group
    -Feat. Tracy Bohnam
    19. A Prayer For England / Massive Attack
    -Feat. Sinead O'Connor
    20. The golden path / The Chemical Brothers
    -Feat. Flaming Lips

It was great reading through the other lists!

Mike, JOYFUL NOISE is the Derek album to get. Some of the earlier ones lack some, agreed. Seems like I read somewhere he got the group a vocalist. I'm intrested in what he does next time out. He's very tallented. Sometimes it seems he's not exactly sure what to do with it??? Best wishes!

    P.S. - Whar does I's sends yer cupy?[IMG]

This morning I went ahead and burned volume 2. Sounds great so far except I may have to end up cutting the Killing Joke track for the sake of flow. I'll see how it bad it sticks out first. The whole Strokes thing might be over done for me by now and there's at least a decent chance that their track will get bumped for Manitoba or Four Tet, M83 or...
