It is just so blurred now, from dark-fiction/fantasy to the post-apocalyptic outings. I'm genuinely confused half the time but I just love Mad Max and the sequels, Dark City, Boy and His Dog. I think they are bit more than a tip-toe different from standard science-fiction though. My list stands anyway.

Nice to see Gattaca get its' due credit huh?

Very nice list Walter. I suppose your still watching Quiet Earth on VHS?

I had to go back and look at my list. It's been awhile. :)

Zen - (Thanks!) No, The Quiet Earth merited a place in my top ten solely on the basis of one theatrical viewing back in 1985 or 1986 and my fond memories of that experience on a Saturday night in Southwest Houston. I can still vividly remember images from the film such as

- when the switch occurs.
- some of the scenes of the abandoned cityscape.
- the denouement of the film with the classic skyline shot.

I wish that Fox would release this film; I'd really love to see it again.

- Walter.

If I'm not mistaken Region 2 is enjoying it, along with another 1985 (film noir) film Trouble in Mind, I wish they would release here. As for The Quiet Earth, Hollywood by my house has a nice tore up copy.

A Boy and His Dog was based on one viewing also. :)

Sometimes films can have that effect on us, which is pretty neat. ( Referring to A Body and His Dog).

I checked the reviews of the R2 of The Quiet Earth and it is only available in open matte; on the other hand it is pretty inexpensive. I haven't ordered any discs outside R1 in some time. Maybe its time for another order?
