With the exception of maybe Consumer Reports, you'll hardly ever find trustworthy reviews of the most common things around the house.

For example, I have this new stapler from Staples that beats the crap out of any Swingline (well, except for the red one maybe). I've been using Edge Shaving Gel for years, but I've always wondered if there was better. I've been using Charmin Toilet Paper since I can remember, but I've been eyeing Cottonnelle lately. UltraMax underarm Anti-Perspirant is still the best I've ever used. The Swifter rules.

Are there some common household products other people can know about?

A couple of random products with which I've been particularly pleased or impressed:

TIDE TO GO pens...so far, work exactly as advertised for me

    Flashlights...best I've EVER had:

    http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=262360

(On a side note...those ILLUMINATOR flashlights that you wind up, they're pretty good too, if you need to keep them in places where they'll be stored a long time between uses. I've had a couple of them for several months now, and, surprisingly, they're still fully powered from their initial windings. One of mine even has an AM/FM radio... The flashlights aren't overly bright, but they're actually pretty darmed decent in a pinch.)

TiVo, in general...I swear, it's not technology, it's magic! (I have the 180-hour dual tuner Series 2.)

Dobie Pads from 3M. These things are a must have for cleaning teflon-coated cookware and they're great for other jobs as well.

Good one, Mark. They're not the ones I use, but I'll consider next time. [IMG]

Another good household product are the Clorox Pens.

As a stinky bachelor I find Febreeze is a wonderful product. : )

All-purpose glass cleaner. I clean everything with this stuff. (guess that's why they call it "all purpose" eh?)

    Paul,
I have this model: 300W. I also bought the more expensive 3 stage model, but prefer this one...

As the laziest bachelor that ever was, I have found these two are my greatest purchases:

    Roomba

    And:

    Scooba

My vacuuming and floor washing has gone from "What? Don't tell me it's leap year again!" to a more respectable once a week for floors and 3-4 times a week for vacuuming. I thought the Roomba was great until I got the Scooba. Now that is a machine! I just fill it with water and solution and let it go. I can now walk on my floors in bare feet and feel the clean under my toes. Although expensive, (even after I paid a lot less than retail); without a girlfriend to clean my place, I'd spend a heck of a lot more on a maid (not to mention what that girlfriend would cost me [IMG] ). I'm now waiting for a robot that will change the sheets and I'll be all set.

Seriously, these are made by the same company that makes the military's IED neutralizing, anti-explosive robots used in Iraq. They were founded by MIT students and a professor, one of whom worked on the Mars Sojourner Rover. Great products that really do clean, in addition to being great fun just to watch. My mom got a Roomba shortly after mine and her house is now free of cat hair and the cats have a new playmate.

Edit - Whoops, the thread title was "Common Household Products". These are not what I consider "common", but they are my favorites. [IMG]
