I'm making a Christmas CD for those long car trips and to get in the Chirstmas spirit. I keep finding new songs and end up making a new CD each year, but I don't mind it. [IMG]
    1) Holly Jolly Christmas - Burl Ives
    2) Blue Christmas - Elvis
    3) It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas - Johnny Mathis
    4) Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time - Paul McCartney
    5) Carol of the Bells - (just any good acapella group)
    6) What Child is This? - Vanessa Williams
    7) White Christmas - Bing Crosby
    8) Let it Snow - Take 6
    9) Let it Snow - Harry Connick Jr.
    10) Winter Weather - Squirrel Nut Zippers
    11) Silent Night - Enya
    12) The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole
    13) Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee Marks
    14) Sleigh Ride - (any classical orchestra)
    15) Jingle Bell Rock - Bobby Helms
    16) I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus - Jackson 5
    17) The Most Wonderful Time of the Year - Andy Williams
    18) O Tannenbaum - Vince Guaraldi (from Charlie Brown Xmas)
    19) Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer - Harry Connick Jr.
    20) I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas - Home Alone ST (Temptations?)
Please add anything you like. I'm a fan of jazz/swing/big band but love the old classics too. And I'm sure the new artists like Charlotte Church have some nice songs also.

And while you're at it, there are some wonderful selections on his Blessed Quietness album, too.

My favorite Christmas carol is O Holy Night and my favorite version happens to be on a John Tesh (!) CD called The Choirs of Christmas. My second favorite version is a cool rendition by Dream Theater, which was given as a gift to members of their fan club.

I'll Be Home For Christmas. When you here this sung by a velvety voiced singer such as Diana Krall, you will be amazed.

This is not an off-topic post so much as it is a anti-topic post. well, not anti, anyway, last year I compiled for some of my friends a CDR entitled Christmas in Hell.
My mother in law has all these old Time Life Christmas songs that are pure bliss/hell depending on your tastes.
If you are still wondering what I mean, do I need to say anything more than the Ray Conniff Singers ?
It was 10 songs of easy listening xmas cheese, you know the kind of insane asylum pumped in musak that either soothes you into blissful daydreams or slowly drives you mad ?
    Some of the selections include
The Wonderful White World of Winter - Bing Crosby never sounded so rockin.
Winter Wonderland - sounding like Herb Alpert and tijuana brass, complete with banjo solo.
Some of the songs from these CDS are quite well done but now and then it crosses the line intopure hell on a snowflake.
For those of you with Morpheus try checking out the Let It Snow ! medley.
My favorite Xmas song is Sleigh Ride performed by the Boston Pops.

The best Xmas album is the one by the Ventures (Christmas instrumentals that begin as famous riffs from classic rock songs).

The most underrated (probably because very few people have heard them) are the Beatle Christmas records they put out for their fan club each year (all most all of which are only available on the verboten bootlegs).

But the best song, without a doubt is Christmas is the Time to Say I Love You by Billy Squier, which they used to play on the radio in LA every year, and which took me years to find on cd.

I can't pick "one" song, but two cd's immediately come to mind: The Bells Of Dublin by the Chieftains and We Three Kings by the Roche sisters. It ain't Christmas without the Irish lads and the "Joisy goils".

Favorite of all time is a bizarre choice because I don't know too many versions of it out there. It is called "See Amid The Winter Snow" and the way Julie Andrews sings it sends shivers down my spine. A close number 2 would be Sandi Patti's version of O Holy Night. Wow!

I've always gotten tired of the Christmas-time standards pretty quickly (if only because living in NYC for many years, one gets rapidly overloaded with them walking into any store or restaurant around the holidays). My fave is probably "Father Christmas," by the Kinks, an offbeat Christmas song if ever there were one. I'm also still very partial to the Band-Aid song, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" (which kicks that crappy "We Are The World"'s ass!! [IMG])

While the traditional christmas songs are fine and dandy if you want to laugh your ass off this holiday season check out an album bye the classic punk band The Vandals. It's called Oi to the World. Many great christmas songs are on this cd including: My First Christmas As A Women, Hang Myself From The Tree, I Don't Believe In Santa Claus, and Nothing's Going To Ruin My Holiday. Trust me your holidays will never be the same again.
