I just read that the new Coen Brothers movie was particularly well filmed in black and white using a new method of shooting in color and removing the color. According to the article I read, it creates very unique shadows. Haven't seen it myself. Anybody have any opinions that has seen the movie?

If you want an example... on the Rocky Horror Picture Show dvd... the 3rd branching version has been changed using the same process of removing the color and creating the opening sequence.

The Rocky Horror stuff was not lit to be photographed black and white so it is more or less just like turning the color all the way down on your set. Probably the most comparable example of something similar to what Roger Deakins did with the Coens is what Seamus Deasy did with John Boorman's "The General". Some video releases of that film were in desaturated color, but it played theatrically in black and white.
