I watched the first episode and really enjoyed it. I've never watched a full episode of The Big Bang Theory so go figure. Also, the actress playing young Sheldon's mom looks just like Laurie Metcalf.

There's a reason for that. That's Laurie's daughter with Jeff Perry, most prominently known a Chief of Staff Cyrus Beene on Scandal and a regular in Shondaland [ie, also Merideth's Grey's father].

It is a fascinating wrinkle for the show. I can't recall if anyone has ever played their mother's role as a younger person in a spinoff before.

Ha, ha, got you! You missed my winkie so yeah, I already knew they were mother and daughter as I've been a fan of Laurie since seeing her in Internal Affairs with Richard Gere and Andy Garcia.

I'm not sure I believe this is a young Sheldon. Also, I've gotten a rather negative impression of Sheldon's dad after all these years of BBT. In the new series, he seems like an ok guy.

Having said that, I was surprised when it ended because it seemed like only 10 minutes had passed. I liked it a lot.

My first official casualty of the new season. Lots of hype and I tried my best, but when you have to force yourself to watch a show, it gets zapped from the DVR schedule.

The only character I liked was his mother, who does a spot-on Laurie Metcalf accent. Sheldon is flat out annoying, no more for me. Typical "Hollywood", milk the cash cow with spin-offs. Not this time.

And Annie Potts as a young Mee-Maw? Not even close.

He was, or was close to being an alcoholic. He also died. Didn’t remember him deserting they family.

Thanks. I knew I recognized him. Just one of those generic character actors you can't quite place. Now everything clicks.

I could never get into "The Big Bang Theory", but I enjoy this show.

The last couple episodes seem to be building toward that. The previous episode heavily foreshadowed the fact that Sheldon's father is going to die within the next few years. And the finale strongly hinted at Sheldon's father's infidelity. It'll be interesting to see how much they lean into that in future seasons; I don't know that I've ever seen a sitcom centered around a bad marriage before, except maybe "Married With Children".
