I only saw a few of the Young Indys, but my impression was they tried to touch on particular moments of history, to educate and entertain. Looks like that intention was lost on some?
You'll have your "damn films" soon enough, and you can skip the extras. I for one appreciate that Lucas and Spielberg are trying to offer something more than just the "damn films". Particularly if the educational system is too wound up with test scores as you say. Good for them to give something back to the culture. (And if high schools have time to screen a 3 hour epic like Lawrence of Arabia, don't be so sure they won't prefer to show the T.E. Lawrence episode of Young Indy instead).
