My heart sank when I heard this on the news tonight. I feel for her family and friends. Espen Knutsen must be going through hell as well.

I sure hope it doesn't stop parents from bringing their kids to games now.

I saw this on the news tonight! I cannot imagine how distraught the girl's parents must be. For me, this is inconceivable -- yet, there it is.
And I'm now reading about the dog-mauling in San Fran. last year, where a young woman was killed (I just learned about this). Argh! [IMG]

Terrible, absolutely terrible. What was especially eerie was that she actually got out of her seat herself right after being hit.

A co-worker of mine broke his hand (in five places !) at a Boston Bruins game in the 70's. He was in the balcony behind one of the nets and he put his hand in front of his face in self-defense when a deflected slap shot came towards him.
6oz of vulcanized rubber can be deadly at 90 MPH. Very sad about that girl. [IMG]

They say it's the first time in the history in of the NHL a fan has been killed by a puck goin into the seats. My heart goes out to the girl's family.

Just curious, but I wonder if a fan has ever been killed by a foul ball in a Major League Baseball game?

Since this happened here in Columbus, obviously it's front page news. Here's something from today's Columbus Dispatch:

I saw this sad incident on the news this morning. I'm puzzled though. She got up right afterwards and walked out. I think she died 24 to 48 hours later. Weren't there any symptoms? Shouldn't she have been under medical observation or thoroughly examined afterwards?

Truely sad indeed. I just read a story about two young girls waiting outside school and a lady hit the gas instead of the brake and smashed them both up against the wall and killed them. I think they were around 8 years old. The mom of one was walking toward her daughter when it happened.
I was at a local Ducks game at the Pond here in Anaheim, CA. and a spectator was hit in the head. He ended up fully recovering. When I go to hockey games I always sit up high because if this. It is a freak accident, but you just never know.
    Peace Out~[IMG]

They need higher plexiglass shielads, like they had in the olympics. This would have the added benefit of speeding up the game.

I read today that the pathologist's report indicates the girl died from a damaged artery in the back of her head. Apparently the artery was damaged when her head snapped back when she was struck, and it was a very unusual injury. The pathologist and an associate of his had never seen a similar injury that caused a death like that before.

I feel terrible for the family, but I think the safety precautions in place are reasonable.

Any time you leave the bedroom you put your life at risk, your own kitchen or bathroom are more likely to do you in than watching a hockey game.
