"The recordings have been newly remastered using Sony Music's DSD (Direct Stream Digital) multichannel surround sound."

    See it here.

They only mention CDs. Perhaps there will be another release later on.

But if it's "only" CD, it can't be multi-channel. So, are these coming out on SACD or not?

If it's just remastered CD, then is there any point double/triple dipping, seeing as I already have the holographic CDs from a few years ago? (As well as the 4-disc boxset).

That's what I was getting at....will these be CDs or SACDs? If they are indeed multi-channel, then they have to be SACDs. However, they could just merely DSD-remastered CDs and the writer of that article screwed up big time.

Ugh...please don't tell me I'm going to buy them all over again. [IMG]

Hopefully they've remastered Jedi so it doesn't sound like cloudy shit. That album sounds horrible.

    (Fingers crossed and praying)

Man, I've been waiting for this for years. Finally maybe I'll start listening to more multi-channel music! Can't wait, bring 'em on. Triple dip away my friends.

I am going to buy these if they come out as SACDs.....

Lucas has been an innovator in audio. I think a hirez release is entirely possible. Think of his involvement with THX and Tom Holman...

What Danny said. I'll triple-dip on these only if it's MC SACD (Edit: or MC DVD-A, don't care which format as long as it's MC...)

It would only be SACD, as SONY classic now controls the rights to Star Wars music.

Oh my, I totally forgot to update this thread. I send an e-mail to starwarsshop.com and enquired about the new soundtracks. My original e-mail was....

So I am 99.99999% confident these new "Star Wars" soundtracks are just DSD-remastered CDs, and NOT SACDs.

Sorry to break it to you guys and gals this way.

    I figured as much.

Does Sony even release SACDs anymore?

This would not be the first time a major screw up has crept into a John Williams related press release. Two years ago the Minority Report press release said Williams won a Grammy for the album "Perpetual Motion". Right name, wrong Williams. It was the classical guitarist who won the Grammy for that album.

Makes me really question the people Williams has representing him.

    It still says multi-channel DSD.

Please, can someone enlight me as how DSD will improve CD sound since it had to be converted back to that "evil" PCM?
To me a remastering that involves yet another conversion is just an oximoron, but I'm willing to listen[explanation].
