Without getting anywhere near a Forbidden Political post, can anyone add more films to my
short list below of films that can be taken two very different ways, depending on whether you
tend to be a Rightie or a Leftie?
    PATTON
    HIGH NOON
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (The original, of course)
    STARSHIP TROUPERS.

On the comedy side, maybe "Man of the Year" (2006) or "Wag the Dog".

I think Forrest Gump can be interpreted in a variety of ways.

The satire of NETWORK has admirers on both the Right and Left.

Starship Troupers is one hell of a musical .. about an interstellar team of vaudevillians providing entertainment for the far-flung troops. Very rare .. I thought I was the only person who'd seen it!

It was directed by Busby Berkeley. In glorious widescreen Technicolor. Actually, his only widescreen effort. But it was brilliant!

I think "Munich" would be a good example (even though I think Spielberg's stance is somewhat clear, he leaves things open enough for different interpretations)

Also, seriously, "The Dark Knight" and "The Dark Knight Rises" (although I actually do think, objectively, TDKR actually leans more right)

And while not a movie, "24" does a decent job of giving credence to both right and left sensibilities.

Apparently Disney's animated Beauty and the Beast has one character who can be interpreted one of two ways according to what I've read here. Le Fue (sp) is gay/he isn't. I'm not referring at all to the new live action version.

As an aging Stage Manager, I'll have to own up to having typed STARSHIP TROUPERS. However, with Neil Patrick
Harris marching around in his "Springtime For Hitler" uniform, I hope I can be forgiven for my error. And I love the
    Jerry Colonna suggestion!

Elia Kazan's America, America has some championing it as a clarion call for immigrant rights while others see it as indictment of the Turkish Muslim brutality against Greek and Armenian Christians. The incredible and difficult voyage of the young hero against the ugly brutality of just about all of the Muslim Turk characters in the film make it a really interesting study, especially in these turbulent times. A controversial masterpiece, to be sure. Obviously, don't hold your breath for a Warner Archives blu-ray.

It's good. But I'm far more fond of last year's "Rouge Won", the unexpected space-opera mascara documentary that took the theaters by storm.
