Baha. Seriously!

I was hesitant to post this last month, because I didn't want to seem like I was hawking myself obnoxiously. Plus it might be considered against HTF policy, and if so I apologize and understand if the thread is closed.

But I've done four appearances so far, and it looks like I'm going to be a regular. So I thought it was worth sharing...

Every Friday at 1:30 PM (eastern time). Listen online right here. (The show is also repeated at 6PM, which means my segment would be on at 7:30PM.) WMET is an AM station based in Washington DC. The producer was looking for a regular movie critic to participate in JD Balart's American Radio Journal Friday show, and for some bizarre reason...he called me! Can you believe it?? At first JD wanted me to focus mainly on the new theatrical releases, but by week 3 I was doing half-theatrical and half-DVD chatter. (I didn't want to miss the opportunity to give Bubba Ho-tep an enthusiastic recommendation.)

The first four shows were quite fun, and I think I got a little more comfortable with each successive Friday. I wasn't on last week because JD (who is also a VIP at Telemundo) was out of town covering President Reagan's funeral. And I might not be on next week because I have a King Arthur screening before I drop my 8 bucks to see Fahrenheit 9/11. But I will be on today! In like....90 minutes actually.

Hope some of you tune in. I'm only on for 20-25 minutes. And no fair making fun of my dorky voice.

Why you pompous, arrogant...

Seriously, it's great you now have a regular gig! Don't worry too much about having a dorky voice. It just means people will more easily recognize you when you go on the air. Just be honest and straightforward and you should do very well. Most important,DON'T SPOIL THE MOVIES! That includes old movies! Not everyone has seen them yet.

Good luck!

Shouldn't you be preparing for the show, like, as of right now? Do some warm up stretches, deep breathing excercises, yoga, etc...

Just finished listening...good job scott. I watched Bubba Ho Tep last week and couldn't stop laughing. My friends and I have this ongoing ritual of saying "yeah that movie wasn't bad, but it would have been better if Bruce Campbell was in it." One great example is Planet of the Apes starring Marky Mark...That movie would have been so much better starring Bruce Campbell.

Keep up the good work Scott.

Congratulations Scott. I’m pleased to see things progressing.

Now when you are invited to comment on NPR, I’ll have to buy the drinks.

Well done, Scott. Good show. I'll be tuning in again next week (if I remember to do so).

Sounds like there are some interesting movies for me to look forward to.

We can say we knew him when...

Congrats Scott! I didn't see this thread until it was over, damn. I know what it's like to be on the radio. I had a show for 6 years on one station and 4 years on another. When I started I was on tape, but then they went live and I almost quit, I was so nervous and didn't want to do it. It does get easier and easier. When I had to go back to tape I was heartbroken because it just wasn't the same. After a while you won't be able to remember a time when you weren't comfortable.

Are you keeping a "playlist" of the movies you talk about?

I listened to you a few weeks ago, I just had to know how dorky you sound.
It is on about 3am so i'm usually asleep by then. Cool gig

Hmmm, did I miss something? I tuned in at 7:25PM to start taping (as I was going to put my son to bed) and when I went through the tape I didn't hear Scott's mellifluous voice...

Sounded like someone called Bryan Williams (?) had a show on.

That was Scott? I thought perhaps Marge Simpson was a closet cinephile.
