How so?

it is an alternative to punching holes in the wall and snaking one. Besides, if mounting over a fireplace(egad) and you can't punch holes and you need to hide/cover up the HDMI due to WAF...

There are also flat(paintable) power cords as well. Just as "extra expensive" as this is from a standard HDMI.

Sure it's an alternative, but WAY too expensive. If I couldn't fish the cables for some reason, I would use a paintable raceway from Wiremold. Home Depot sells the one made specifically for flat screen TV's for $18.
