This just recently posted on Criterion's website:

Criterion Honors the Centennial of Ozu's Birth

In honor of the 100-year anniversary of the birth of renowned Japanese filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu (b: December 12, 1903; d: December 12, 1963), Criterion has acquired several of his most highly-regarded films. Among the Ozu films slated for DVD release in 2003 and 2004 are such classics as Floating Weeds, Early Summer, and Tokyo Story. Look for the first of Criterion's upcoming Ozu titles in the fall of 2003. Look also for an Ozu theatrical retrospective, travelling the world in 2003 and appearing as part of the 2003 New York Film Festival (Oct. 5 - Nov. 6).

This is amazing news, as I knew Floating Weeds was in the works, but had absolutely no idea they could get their hands on Tokyo Story. Man this is shaping up to be an incredible year for Criterion with films coming from Godard, Truffaut, Gilliam, Fellini, and Ozu. With expected as of now unannounced titles from Kurosawa, Bergman, and Renoir also maybe for release in 2003!!

Is "Good Morning" typical of his work? I didn't like that one... thought it was a thoroughly average movie and failed to see what made it worthy of the Criterion name.

Chuck, Good Morning was the first Ozu I saw as well and I wasn't all that impressed either. Then just a few months ago, I finally saw Tokyo Story. I am in awe of the greatness of this film. I could describe it with every superlative in the dictionary. I went out and bought Good Morning soon after so I could re-evaluate it, because the setups, compositions, even sets, are quite similar.
This announcement is great news. I REALLY want to see more Ozu. Would love to go to NYC for this, but I don't see that happening.

It should be pointed out that the image posted by Tim RH is just a fan cover for Tokyo Story (and a very good one), not the actual cover, which probably won't be designed for some time.

    This is a huge announcement!

That cover just captures the way I saw the film so well...
    I can't wait.
