I know that Yamaha does not allow their RX-V series A/V Receivers to be sold from just any store. If you purchase one from a non-authorized dealer, Yamaha will not approve the warranty. I understand this part.

The HTR series A/V Receivers are sold to mass market outlets and you can buy one just about anywhere. Does the dealer need to be and AUTHORIZED one for Yamaha to honor the warranty on the HTR series A/V Reciever?

I have the HTR 5890 and when it would not switch on I took it to the local Yamaha Dealer and they ran the serial number before telling me it had been originally purchased from an unauthorised dealer (I inherited it). They would not touch it and would not even sell me an extended warranty for it. Kind of got the attitude that they wanted no part of it because "I did not buy it from them so I was on my own - so there!"

Eventually got it repaired by a local independent place and it has been OK for the last 12 months. I believe this is the same for their speakers. You see a lot of them on ebay but I think they are grey market and the warranties are therefore void.
