just wondering which one is "better" out of the 2 or which would be best for HT
and as far as sound quality or easability of use and other attributes

I've always like Marantz, though I haven't owned one for quite a few years. They're just a bit too expensive for me. Also, the 7002 only up-scales to 480P. But the audio quality should be first rate.

Yamaha always has a ton of features for the price. Some of their amp sections fall a little short of published specs but I doubt anyone would really notice in real world use. And I don't think the 1800/1900 are in that group.

If it were me I'd probably opt for the 7002 as video conversion isn't really a big issue for me. Ac4l.com has a refurbished 7002, with factory warranty, for $899. But either Yamaha would also be a good choice, as would the Onkyo 806.

I always recommend people down-load the manuals of receivers before they buy. Might be something in there that catches your eye.
