(i know these are 'late' models but i dont need the ipod and xm function on their replacements which is the only difference)

I only use 5.1 sound, would it be a smart thing though to get the 7.1 receiver? only cost me an extra $50 but that's still money out of my pocket......

    5850 is 6.1
I can get it to my door with warranty for $255
    105x6 RMS

    5860 is 7.1
I can get it to my door with warranty for $305
    110x7 RMS

also, the new 5900 series have an extra set of component inputs (3 in, 1 out)
not sure if that would make up your mind or not

i' say invest the $50 now and go 7.1, just in case a few months/years down the road, if you'd like to do a simple upgrade to a 7.1 system, you save yourself a few bucks

well i thought a bit about the newer ones and decided to go for the 5860 or 5960 mainly because of the preouts they offer over the 50 series models.

It's only $40 extra to move up to the 5960 over the 860 and that gives me the 1 more component input and 1 more coax audio input as well as xm and ipod... so that's probably worth the $40 right>

    305 vs 345
