Hello all fellow Home Theater lovers!
This is my first post to this site but not my first time here. I just wanted to say that I love the site and its great to get a chance to share all of these views and ideas with others that love the same thing!
Anyway, I have seen many posts from other owners of Yamaha recievers but I was wondering what people thought of the HTR-5660. I recently replaced my Pioneer VSX-D498, not the most powerful reciever but it did the job and ran cool. I was trying to decide between the Yamaha and a Denon 1804 or H&k but I live in Duluth, MN(Pop: 85,000) Best Buy is what passes for high end around here, and I didn't really feel like ordering online (hate the waiting) so I went with the HTR-5660 and have been happy so far but wondered what others who have it have thought of the performance.
Currently my home theater consists of a:

27" Sony (hope to replace with something larger/projector)
Yamaha HTR 5660 6.1 Channel
Sony 5 Disc DVD
Sony 5 Disc CDP-305
RCA 4-head Hi-Fi

Speakers:
Main-Acoustic Research PS2262
Center-Yamaha NS-C444
Surrounds-KLH 911B's(I know but surpisingly they sound pretty good)
subs-Acoustic Research 8" Bandpass 100watt powered/Optimus 12" passive

Other:
Xbox,PS2,GameCube,Dreamcast,PSOne,Saturn,PC
RCA RC-900U universal remote/other universals

Also have one in the bedroom but just a two speakers system:
20" Zenith
Sony DVP-NS425P single disc DVD
Emerson 4-head
Pioneer VSX-D498
JBL bookshelfs

I hope to replace some of the lackluster stuff soon but we live in an apartment so it makes it hard to really "push" the system. Thanks for looking at my post, I want to have some pics soon. I look forward to getting to know some of you and exchanging ideas!

I ordered a new yamaha 2400 but there was a problem and its taking like 4 weeks to get here, so I went and bought the 5660 at BB as a temp reciever. I found that it is very very loud and clear with my speaker setup (all jbl northridge series) I have not done much playing with it being that its just a temp reciever, but I was very supprised how it handeled my setup! The only thing I found that was bad was the quality of the composite to svideo conversion. But that may be bad on all recievers. All in all I would say its an excellent buy for its pricerange.

Matt,

Given that Best Buy should now have the new HTR-5760 on the shelves, you might want to go and exchange the 5660 for the newer HTR-5760.

I've had the HTR-5650 and now the HTR-5760. The 5650 was more than capable at producing good sounds. However, it felt better knowing that I had a newer model along with Dolby PLIIx for when I jump to a 6.1 format.

The price should be nearly the same if you were to exchange the receivers.
