Does anyone have any info on either the YAMAHA DVD-S2300 or ONKYO DV-SP800. I'm looking in to buying one or the other, but need help with my decision. What are your thought's and opinions on these two players?

Seth, I haven't seen the two players yet, but they look great on paper. As I recall, they both employ Faroudja DCDi deinterlacing. My concern is how the two players will handle SACD. Some criticism I have read of the Pioneer Elite DV-47A and Marantz DV-8300 has centered on SACD playback.

If a moderator is watching, please replace Denon with Onkyo in the subject.

Thank's for your reply. One thing that i'm curious about is that the Onkyo has 12 bit/108 MHZ video processing, while the Yamaha has 12 bit/54MHZ video processing. Is there a noticable difference in performance between 54MHZ and 108MHZ? Also i'm hoping that these 2 new universal players will do SACD right, only time will tell. I didn't know that the Onkyo used the Faroudja chipset, hmmm interesting.

Seth, from what I have read, 54 vs. 108 MHz does not necessarily determine video quality. I have used plenty of players with 54-MHz video DACs that provide an excellent picture.

I seem to recall that the subject of 54- vs. 108-MHz video DACs has been discussed here. Do a search.

Seth and Ron, I believe I am mistaken here. It seems that the Onkyo 'SP800 does not employ the Faroudja chipset. I must have confused it with the Yamaha player. Oops.
Here is a link to the 'SP800 at Crutchfield (now in stock):

It looks like Onkyo may be using their own deinterlacing chipset. I'm really curious as to how this player's performance is going to be.

Seth, I mentioned that in another thread here. Onkyo mentions some "ExperienCinema" circuitry on its web page for the 'SP800. I'm not really what that involves, but perhaps it does involve their own deinterlacing chipset.

I wonder why Yamaha hasn't posted any info on the DVD-S2300 on the US website. Onkyo had info on the DV-SP800 for a while before the player was actually released. I hope Yamaha gives us some solid details on this fine player sometime soon. [IMG]

Seth, all I have seen thus far is an announcement about the 'S2300 from CEDIA. Hopefully we will know more soon.

The Yamaha looks to be based on the 47a, from the remote it uses. So it probably has the chroma bug...

The Onkyo looks like a new design.

From everything that i've been reading lately, it look's like the Yamaha is indeed based on the pioneer platform. I don't believe that the Yamaha is going to suffer from the chroma bug. The reasons I say that is that Yamaha opted not to use stock parts and components. And instead of using what Pioneer used for deinterlacing, Yamaha used the Faroudja DCDI chipset. All of the players that i've seen using the Faroudja deinterlacer haven't had the chroma problem. As for bass management, both player's offer bass management for SACD, but as for dvd-audio i'm not sure.
