If I only have a 5.1 set up. I rented a few movies that says it is THX mastered, and I was wondering if I set my receiver for THX, will I get true THX Mastered digtial sounds?

Do a search on this forum this had been discussed a million times.THX is not a sound format. There is as such as THX EX,which is the "same" as Dolby EX,and there is THX Ultra II, but that don't require any encoding from the source as it's technically a DSP mode.Check out THX.com for more.

for clarificaton purposes, by pressing THX cinema on my remote for the yamaha 1400, doesnot necessarily gives me better sound-then the default enhanced surround sound for my dvd movies?

Okay, I read the links,it sounds to me that THX engage does give you a better clean sound. Am I wrong?

You aren't going to be able to tell by READING about it. GO TRY IT and hear for yourself. I personally don't like what THX does to the sound with most movies, THX mastered or not.

Good article. I did listen with THhx mode engaged for the movie, Hildago. It sounded like the enchanced surround sounds, not any better or worse-the part of the train moving along was awesome but I dont know if it would have been the same with the enchanced.
