Does anyone know the difference (if any) between Yamaha's RX-Vxxx line and their HTR-xxxx line?

I have compared the RX-V520 and the HTR-5450 and they seem to be the same.

    Thanks!!

I believe the RX line is sold at higher end stores, and the HTR series is sold at regular retailers.

Also, the RX have Pre-amp outs I'm not sure if the HTR does.

    However, they are very similar.

so it's the little details that set them apart.

If you search long enough at the Yamaha Web Site, you will find their official explanation. You will find out that the RX and HTR lines are identical except for the color of the print on the unit. The RX line is sold at authorized dealers (Tweeter), and the HTR line is sold at places like Best Buy. When I bought my Rx-596 at Tweeter, they matched the deal from Best Buy on the equivilant HTR receiver.

Exactly the same except the HTR's have gold lettering on the front and the RXV's have white. RXV's are sold at HIFI stores while HTR's are sold at sears and Best buy.

Actually, that FAQ doesn't give the answer...close, but not exactly.

People seem to talk about the pre-outs and one other thing. I'm too lazy to do the research for you though. :)
    Happy hunting!

You bet. So, you going to share what differences you found? I was serious about being too lazy to do the research myself. ;-)

    Sorry Bill.

Near as I can tell, they are identical save the color of the writing on the front panel. In the RX Series it is white, the HTR it is gold.

    The specs look identical.

    Anyone else see otherwise?

    Thanks again!

I'm actually looking to buy a RX-V1200 but I'm waiting to see the price difference with a HTR-5490. My dealer told me that the HTR version of the 1200 would be available in Canada by the end of the month.

I did made some research to compare them, here's what I found by comparing each user manual (PDF from Yamaha's web site).

What the RX-V1200 has that the HTR-5490 doesn't:

    - Silver lettering (Gold on HTR)

    - Pre-outs

    - 2nd audio zone feature

    - 12 Volt Trigger

    - Detachable power cord

    That's about it...

I'm hoping for about a 200 $ CDN difference between the 2 models. If it's less, I may go with RX-V1200.
