Reading the RPG recommendation thread got me thinging about this game again, and how everyone keeps recommending it. I tried playing it twice, and both times just gave up about 10 hours into the game. Really, there are two problems that I had:

-The combat was very shallow, and very boring. I just had no motivation to fight. No problem with any of the FF games though.

    -Horribly dubbed cutscenes.

Is there something that redeems this game later on that I'm missing?

The storyline does really improve. And the music is incredible.

It's the combat system I love! It's just weighted down with far far far too many randoms combined with /too much/ story development - the story is great, it just takes so many random battles to get to it [IMG]
I really enjoyed it, but didn't come close to finishing it because of the sheer amount of randoms.
Grandia remains my fav PSX RPG (I don't count the all conquering FFT).

Xenogears is in the top 3 rpg's released on Playstation. I could see it a little difficult to play in 2002, since you may be used to the next-gen titles, but stick with it!

BTW what is the skinny on Xenosaga, and when is it supposed to come out here. And why is namco making it?

    Jamie,

I'd be interested to see those wallpapers you did. I loved the art in that game!

Hmmm.... I guess no one here is crazy like me to import Xenosaga.... (cost a pretty penny, I might add)
I have played about 20 minutes and it is just out right amazing. There is a translation FAQ/Guide at www.gamefaqs.com.
Xenosaga is rumored to come out in the first quarter of next year...
