i just have a quick question for the pro's...are there any service menu settings, that if incorrectly adjusted, can indeed do permanent damage to the set? if so, can anybody tell me which (if any) these might be.

    thanks so much guys.
    Carmine.

There are lots of them, almost to the point of pick one and start to turn it up (or down).

hey gregg, i'm the guy from staten island who is going to be booking you for a calibration in march. i'm a little worried because i did obtain a copy of sony's service manual for my xbr 400 & did a little tweaking with a few options. i'm not 100% sure exactly which one's i changed, but when i didn't notice a big difference, i set them back to what the manual stated as "typical" setting. now i know it is virtually impossible for you to tell me if i did indeed do any severe damage to my set without me telling you which options i changed. i do, however, remember a couple of them - AXIS, UBLK, DCTR. i did fiddle with the cuts & drives, but after seeing little difference i did change them back to the "typical" manual settings. in your own expert opinion does it sound like i could have done any major damage?

thanks so much Gregg - looking forward to your sevices.

    Carmine.

I doubt it. If it still looks okay then dont worry. However 2 RULES:
    1. Never touch a parameter if you dont know what it does
    2. Always write down your original settings.

Side note: the manual will have factory default settings, these may or may not have any relation to your set.
