    Hey Guys,

I'm trying to load up some custom music on my XBOX. Seems only media it will read is CD-RW... It's also taking forever to load the cd.. Is this normal???

The new Xboxs, that come with the free Tetris Worlds and Star Wars Clone Wars, play CDrs.

not to hijack the thread but I recently discovered that my XBox will not read CD-R's. I would like to do the same as Steve and load some custom tracks to my Box, is it possible that mine will only read CD-RW's as well?

In case it helps, my XBox is fairly old, I purchased it in August 2002. Thanks.

I ran out to staples last night, and picked up a few CD-RW's... It worked fine in the XBOX, but took forever to copy..

Does anyone have a list of what brand of CDR's or CDRW's are readable by the 'box?

Generally speaking, it should read all CD-RWs & no CD-Rs...but if your Xbox has the Samsung drive it will probably read CD-Rs too. There are some compatibility lists out there...can't find my bookmarks at the moment though.

    Here you go:

    Xbox Media compatibility list

On a personal note I've found that Memorex CDRW's work great. I've actually found no CDR brands that worked on my box, just the RW's

Also, other factors to consider are: the burning ROM you're using as well as the burner, apparently they can both play a factor in whether or not your particular media will be readable.

    Hope this helps,
    Gary

45 minutes for 10 songs, eh? Mine only takes about 15 minutes for a whole CD.

Speaking of the music mixer... is it out yet? It allows you to transfer music from PC to xbox, I believe by uploading to a server and downloading...

Make you any bet the RIAA monitors this.

What I'd like to see is a game or something for the Xbox that allows us to use the built in Ethernet port to transfer directly from computers.

actually music mixer is out and it transfers directly over your lan setup from pc to x-box or using a crossover cable. No uploading to some microsoft server and back again

I've got the Music Mixer and a Linksys Wireless G broadband router. I've had a heck of a time d/l music to my Xbox. Every time I try, I get a disconnect message. Anyone else have any luck / bad luck with this? Anyone have any suggestions for me?

It's probably the media you are using. I have Sony brand cd-rs and it takes 15-20 to copy to the xbox hard drive.

For the life of me, I cannot get this gd thing to work. I constantly get the "unable to connect to computer" message. It's bizzare, because I have no problem getting (and staying) online.

Rob...my friends virus-protection had a firewall enabled. Didn't affect him getting on the net, but he couldn't connect to his XB. He just turns it off when transferring music.

Just load the songs up to a CD-RW and burn them, lock the disc and upload them to the xbox, it will work. from my experience the CD-R's wont work but the RW's will... Then just format it and keep doin it!
