    Hey all,
Well as some of you know, I recently purchased an Xbox from my older brother(got an amazing deal. XBox, regular contoller, S controller, advanced AV pack, Splinter Cell, All Star Baseball 2003, NBA Inside Drive 2002, and Madden 2002 for 180 bucks). Anyhow, I was planning on holding off on live but I think I'm gonna go ahead and do it this week. I've already got a router and everything(and some fat bandwidth here at school as any of you that played SOCOM with me will remember). Anyhow, so now I'm trying to think of a title I'll enjoy. I've narrowed it down to 3. Mech Assault, Ghost Recon, and Unreal Championship. Here's so far the pros and cons of each title as I can see it
Mech Assault-Seems like you can pick it up and play it easily, controls well. However, I played it at a friends dorm(head to head) and was not really into it. It just didn't seem fun to me.
Ghost Recon-Seems to be well recieved by most on the board. Probably plays like SOCOM in terms of multiplayer(which I enjoyed), though I'm afraid the single player will involve to much strategizing(I thought SOCOM was even a little much for me in terms of the tactical side of single player). Also, it seems like the game search feature blows and the only way to play is with HTF people. I enjoy playing with HTF people but with SOCOM I really did not enjoy playing with the general public and I fear that I'd get limited use out of GR for the same reasons.
Unreal Championship-First, I used to love Unreal Tournament back in the day on my Mac. It seems like it's very easy to get into and play. It's also only 24.99 at EB. However, I've heard it's kinda buggy and fairly shallow(even for a arena style FPS).
Can someone tell me if my observations are true or otherwise help me decide? I'm leaning more towards GR or Unreal if that helps. Thanks for any help, and I'll see you guys online in a few days hopefully!

If I had to choose... I would go with Mech Assault. I have had more online fun with that game than any other.

Oh, and it's DEFINATELY more fun on XBL than playing split-screen... basically because you can cheat by looking at the other person's screen [IMG]

Ghost Recon. For single play, all you do is look at the map and point to where you want your troops to go. If they see someone in their way, they'll kill it. There's really no strategy.

Also GR Online finding games isn't that bad. Usually if I do the search where it will find games based on specifications it finds at least one or two. In fact before playing with our guys tonight I had a couple of decent games going with some good guys. Here's a trick: don't play deathmatch, play with a team and you won't get dumbasses (at least much less often).

I have both MechAssault and Ghost Recon but I play much more GR online than MA. Firstly, there's a much higher moron factor on MA than GR. Secondly, I find MA to be rather shallow: the majority of people pick the same few mechs (Madcats, etc.) and there really isn't too much variety on the maps.

With GR, you can play Solo, Team, or Co-Op with different modes for each. I've found many more pleasant games with the general GR playing public and there are plenty of weapon/loadout choices, particularly once you've unlocked some of the specialists through the single player game. There is also a nice variety of maps with both wilderness and urban settings, as well as day and night elements.

While I doubt you can really go wrong with either one, my choice would be GR.

i prefer unreal much more over both of them, Mechassault gets boring since everybody uses madcat's and imo a lack of modes and maps. I've had a lot of trouble finding ghost recon games if not invited, I'll sit there for 5-10 minutes waiting for it to not say no games availible. if you haven't played unreal online before than i think that is the definte choice, lot's of modes and it's the only game with 16 player gamess.

Very different games so tough to say. I agree with the comments re: Mech Assault above (limited maps, small group of 'Mechs chosen all the time) but it's nevertheless a blast. Plus downloadable content is scheduled that will include new maps, mechs, and game modes to boost the variety quite a bit. I couldn't get into Ghost Recon and am bored with the Unreal style of game so MA was my obvious online choice. And don't discount the demo version of MotoGP that comes with the Live disc - it's a blast. [IMG]

Thanks for the input guys. I still think I wouldn't enjoy Mech Assault so I think I'll wait and try to borrow it from my buddy. As far as Ghost Recon, does it play like SOCOM in multiplayer? How about in single player? I enjoyed SOCOM in multiplayer but really found it to be a pain for single player(issuing commands to your men got to be a big pain. I always got teamwork ratings >50%). Regarding Unreal, does it play like Unreal Tournament(haven't played 2003)? I noticed the weapons seem more akin to Quake 3 weapons and I'm a little leary of that(no pistol(s)!) Is it worth 25 bucks? Thanks for any input guys. I'm probably gonna pick up the Live kit tomorrow(strangely enough they sell it at my campus book store so I don't have to worry about losing my parking space to drive to the mall on a weekday) but I probably won't pick up a game(other than the included demos of course) until this weekend.

I have the most fun with MotoGP and play it constantly. I finally played MechAssault for an extended period of time today, and got into a room with some guys who were a lot of fun to play with. Friendly trash talking, jokes and banter, but nothing overly serious or obnoxious in the least.

I think that makes the biggest difference in any game. MotoGP can get frustrating when you're in a room with half the people trying to cause wrecks and going around the track backwards, but once you find some people that are actually playing proper games, but still just having fun with it, it makes all the difference in the world.

Anyway, MechAssault is good, but I am still a bit afraid that I'll get tired of it quickly (I hope the CTF mode is fun), and that's also why I'll stay away from UC (I know I'll get bored of that within a week).

Picked up the kit today and now i'm up and running. After some problems(couldn't find my subscribtion code at first, and it took me forever to come up with a gamertag that wasn't already in use). So far, I don't really like MotoGP. The controls seem very odd to me. At any rate, I'm still debating between Ghost Recon or Unreal. Keep the info coming!

Well guys, I've decided to give Ghost Recon a shot. I figure if I want to play Unreal I can always play the original Unreal Tournament on my G4. Looking forward to playing with you all!
