If Microsoft really wants to sell a ton of XBOX Live kits, create a patch for Halo to allow it to be played on XBL. They patched Dead or Alive 3, why not Halo? It pisses me off that I have to wait like a year for Halo 2 to be able to use in on XBL. Why not a patch for Tony Hawk 4 as well? Take advantage of the hard drive!

They can also patch Rallisport if they wanted to.

It's not like they can "patch" Halo. DOA3 had "tags" that allowed upgradability in it, same as MotoGP.

Halo was not designed for play over the internet, and would require a major reworking. Bungie has already stated this dozens of times already. There will be NO Halo 1.5 and no patch for internet play.

All their focus is on Halo 2, which WILL feature Xbox live support straight out of the box.

Well, I stand corrected about the upgraded MotoGP for online play then.

But I don't see where I said that MotoGP online was a patch.

Again, I stand corrected. I should've phrased that a bit better I suppose. I don't consider "upgrading" and "patching" as the same thing, but I didn't clarify that at all.

The basic point I was trying to make was that Halo does not, and will not have the ability to be upgraded, at least not for internet play. Perhaps they'll add more multiplayer maps, but I think even that's a stretch.

Besides, I'd rather have them working full time on Halo 2 so that it's release date stays towards the endo of 2003, rather than slip to 2004.

As long as you can weed out the EO players.

Come on folks, why would MS give away something for free when they can make you buy a whole new game?

From the sound of it, they had a group of programmers busting their collective butts to code in online play for Moto Gp so it would be ready for Live. As much as I wold absolutely love to have Halo on Live, I can wait the few months until Halo 2. Rather have it done right.

    You know what I meant.

Those "upgrades" are nothing much, and you don't see people who purchased their X-Box for $300 (like me) getting free games do you?

After your response, I guess I don't know what you meant. I thought it was in reference to getting a free "upgrade/booster" to online play, which could be analogous to the free upgrade/boosters to DoA3 and SegaGT, which added features.

Regardless, as Travis noted, I'd rather MS "do it right" and release a full Halo2 instead of expending resources on enabling XBL in Halo1. Even MS's resources are finite.

I think Activision was at fault for THPS4. Seems they signed an Online exclusive agreement for the PS2.

    Eric F,
No one forced you to buy an XBox at 299. I paid 300 in November or 2001 for my PS2 and then a few months later it dropped in price. I waited till the cube dropped to 150 to pick one of those up. Do I regret not waiting any longer because it would have been less expensive or had better pack ins? Not at all. I understand the point you're trying to make, it just seems that you feel your "owed" something because you went out and purchased an xbox at full bust out retail when it debuted. That's the price of being on the cutting edge.

To rewrite Halo for online, they'd have to suspend Halo 2 development for a couple of months or more (FPS games have networking issues that racing games don't have to deal with). This could cause them to to miss XMas 2K3 for Halo 2. And you usually can't just throw more bodies at a software project to get things done quicker (or to add functionality).
