The Japanese edition of this controller has a 8.5' cord rather than the standard 10' one. Plus the jewel is green and the analog triggers have a softer feel. I really wish they made the cord a full 10' but I'd buy it for the softer triggers.

It's called 'clearing out stock that isn't selling well in Japan'.

This happened with the Dreamcast 'Millenium' controllers.

I'm thinking about getting this since I already have a controller extension cable, so cable length isn't an issue. So it would be a cheaper Controller-S for me.

Glen,

Some don't like the buttons on the Japanese controller compared to the 'S' controller.

I've heard they have raised lettering on them, and I think the buttons are a little taller.

I almost grabbed one since it was $5 cheaper, then I saw the shorter cord length and decided against it. For me, the long cords are the next best thing to wireless.
BTW: Did the definition of "jewel" recently change? ;)

The cord is a bit shorter, and the buttons feel better I think. The letters are depressed, not raised. I got my Japanese controller before the american S even launched. I almost picked up another one since my local store had a light grey one.
