Surprised this wasn't posted yet.
Thanks for the scoop. Those seem like some reasonable rumors...
Just the other day I was thinking that the teeny-tiny GC discs leave them options for a portable version later...
This does sound like a whole bunch of unfounded speculation, however. I'll believe it when I see it - a portable GC this year, for goodness sake? GBA isn't that far into its lifecycle at all, and the GC is far beyond its capabilities. Also, they have made plenty of fuss in the past about GC-GBA interconnectivity; what would be the point if you could just have a portable GC anyway?
The other info (2005 for PS3, the next XBox being launched in time to beat Sony out of the gate) is a combination of logical extrapolation and old rumour, as well.
I could see a smaller X-Box coming out (like the NES did), and it's old news that the next MS and Sony consoles would be out around 2005, but the GameCube thing is just not true. There were rumors from around last September/October that Nintendo would release the GameBoy Advance 2 (or whatever it would be called). It was pretty much an upgraded GBA in terms of design, not in terms of power. It supposedly had a fold open backlit screen and a better design for the buttons.
And to tell the truth, who cares what MS is going to come out with in a few years? I have more interest in the games they're going to have for their console in the next year.
Considering that you can get an X-Box with 2 free games (yes, they're not brand new, but they could amount to at least a $50 worth) that just shows that MS has sort of dropped the X-Box's price. The next step is probably removing the games and making the console $150, which makes a smaller version of the console a dumb idea.
Rumor, rumor, rumor...I don't believe any of these until i see an official press release. Its not like I'll be planning my purchases 2-3 years out.
What does one thing have to do with the other? Sony shrank the size of PS1, did that make dropping the price to $50 a bad idea?
All this talk about this and that, but all I want is a damn xbox that won't reset it's clock every time I unplug it more then 6 hours! It's all I ask!
